I'm SO sick...what have you gals taken for colds?

Ugh....

My son had strep throat for over a week, lost a ton of weight b/c he wouldn't eat or drink and was on the verge of being hospitalized because of it. Thankfully he's on the mend, but a few days later my daughter became ill ... thankfully not strep but a really horrible cold (don't think it was flu as there was no fever). Hubby was out of town so I thought, good, he'll escape this, but low and behold he got the crud, too and he got it worse than my daughter. It's been getting worse each day for over a week now. I was really thrilled to be exposed to all of this and patting myself on the back for having a rockin' immune system until, blammo, I got it last night, too, and now I feel like he!!.

The symptoms are a major sore throat but only in the mornings (from nasal drainage, not strep), massive headache, cough, runny nose, achy, feeling feverish, but no fever...all the standard cold symptoms. My question for you preggo gals is what have you taken to alleviate the symptoms? My LUCKY husband has been downing Nyquil, TheraFlu and things of the sort but we can't do that.

What's worked???

I have been sick for almost a week with this cold/flu **** and I have been so ill. Well I called the OB and asked if I could just use a dose of nyquil at night and she said at this point in my pregnancy it wouldn't hurt if it would help me to get some rest and it did help. Ask your OB and see. It's worth a try to see what they say. It sounds like its going around!!!! Hope you all feel better and like the dr told me drink plenty of fluids!!!

I must be having the same thing.  My husband got influenza A that is going around where I live.  Actually, 2 flus going around, A & B, he got the bad one. I'm not sure if I have the same thing but I have been in bed for a week.  I am so miserable. I have been taking robitussin, tylenol extra strength and benedryl. Also using a humidifier, and taking tons of vitamin c.  I sent my son to the store to get me tylenol cold and all he could find was the multi symptom ones.  He finally got me the tylenol sinus congestion  but I'm afraid to take it.  I want to really  bad.  The active ingredients are Acetaminophen, phenylphrine HCL, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate.

If anyone has any info on these please let me know.

tylenol cold is okay but you aren't supposed to take the multi-symptom kind.. when I was sick there was one night I broke down and took a night time thera-flu. I looked up the ingredients and they were on the safe list.

Ok, I am the one who is taking advantage of ALL of the meds.
I'm feeling soooo crappy. I take Actifed & Tylenol, used Afrin nasal spray and take a simple sleep before bed. I woke up today feeling a little guilty and a little hungover, ha ha ha. BUT they are all approved meds on my list to take. I know that a lot of people don't even take the meds when they are offered (but I do).  Certainly hope you feel better too, it's the pits!

suck up some warm salt water. I use a straw... its for the birds,  but it really helps.
sea salt is the best. gargle the rest.
I had read that for a cough you put vicks rub on your feet. I havent tried it yet. I have to buy some vicks.

I called my doc and here's the scoop:

Fever = Tylenol or Tylenol Extra STrength
Cold symptoms = Tylenol Cold (yay)
Cough = Robitussin & humidifier or steam from hot bath or shower
Sinus = Saline mist (yuck)

I had a bad cough and cold that turned into a sinus infection... finally gave up and started antibiotics yesterday... but...  boiling water and breathing in the steam... vapo rub... cough drops...

i got hit with one myself last night
i feel very crappy...
i'm drinking lots of oj
and taking my vitamins
blowing my nose
and using a humidifier
looking forward to seeing what the others post. stephie
