Insomnia

Does/did anyone else have insomnia in early pregnancy?  I'm just over 9 weeks and for the past week or so I've sleeping for about 4 hours and then I have to get up and go to the bathroom and then I can't seem to fall back asleep for 2-3 hours.  I get about 7 hours of sleep but even not pregnant I feel like I need 8 hours.  Now being so tired from the pregnancy and insomnia I feel like I'm going to go crazy.  I also can't fall asleep for a nap even though I'm so tired.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a better night of sleep?
Thanks!!
Kara

Lack of sleep tends to happen to many in pregnancy.  And it's so awful!  I sympathize.  Just do make sure to double check with your Dr. or a pharmacist before taking anything.  It never hurts to double check.  Hope you get some sleep soon.

I'm 12 weeks and i've been having a horrible time sleeping lately and finally took a half a unisom pill last night and got sleep. I was tossing and turning all nigt long and hardly sleeping at all. That and tylonol pm are the ok sleepy pills to take during pregnancy. Good luck hope it gets better. I've heard sleep gets better in 2nd trimester.

I also wake up around 4am every morning and can't get back to sleep.  My dr told me to eat before bed to avoid blood sugar dropping and wakong up.  Going to try that tonight.

It *****, but like JourneyJoJo, I have been like this since week 7. I am 13w3d now and I have been regularly waking up between 3:30 and 4.30 every night to go to the bathroom and then I am just awake. I have learned that there is no way for me to fall back to sleep :( , so I just make certain to go to bed very early every night and get a 6 hour sleep. Luckily my dogs are happy to keep me company while I read and get some work done before my husband gets up and we go to work.
Warm milk seems to relax me, but I very rarely fall back to sleep. The best thing is trying not to get too anxious about it and take it as good practice for those sleepless nights that eventually will come ;)

I've been like this my whole pregnancy up to this point.  I'm 18 weeks.  It definitely got better in the second trimester because I don't pee so much at night, but I virtually always wake up between 3:30 - 4:30 a.m. and am up for an hour or two before I can fall back asleep.  Instead of getting frustrated, I have a little snack (because I'm usually starving at that point), relax, then wait to get tired again.  Sometimes I'll even try and 'trick' myself and watch a show on tv and tell myself that I want to see the end of it.  Invariable, I fall asleep!  Warm milk helps too.

Oh yeah, and part of my sleeplessness is vivid dreams and occasional nightmares.  So even when I'm asleep, it feels like I'm not really sleeping because I've been active in my dreams.  This has also calmed down a bit in my second tri.

I'm only 4 weeks but the last two nights I have woken up at 4:30am and can't go back to sleep either.  I hope this is a short term thing!

That STINKS!  I had it in one of my pg's.  But thats it.  & it's the WORSE!!!!  Have you tried drinking a warm herbal tea (caffeine free)  & maybe a nice warm bath?  Or hot steamed milk (vanilla steamers from starbucks are yummy!)
If you can't sleep then TRY & relax, concentrate on your breathing & maybe do some visualizing ;)
