Just found out it's twins

Hi all, I just posted a question to a different forum here and then saw this category.  I am 5 weeks pregnant with twins and having spotting.  Am very nervous, have waited a long time to get pregnant. Just did ivf and used donor eggs. Labs and u/s look okay and am due to see doc again on monday ( I go 3 times a week).  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Best of luck to everyone!

Man, that sucks.  I"m sorry to hear that you're having to go thru that ****.    The donor we used is 23 and very healthy as per her bio.  Ive actually never heard of donor embryo, thats interesting.  I figured at least the baby would be genetically be half ours if not both.  It was the closest thing to having "My" own baby.
The one thing that kept me going thru all this mess was always having Plan B, that way i had something to focus my attn on if the current plan went awry.

I was traveling yesterday, so just getting back to you.  Thanks for the info.  I'm glad to hear there are good successes with donor eggs.  I'm 42 and did get pregnant with twins (only produced 3 eggs and 2 fertilized eggs transfered) this last round of IVF, but after the first u/s they only saw 1 heartbeat and it was low (82bpm), the second u/s it went to 93bpm, but they told me it looked very bad.  Sure enough the third ultra sound the heartbeat stopped.  We met with the Dr and he said I could try again with IVF, but it wouldn't be his first choice.  It breaks my heart because like you I wanted my own gentic child, but I'm starting to realize gentics really don't matter, it's really the soul that counts.  The Dr did mention donor embyro too, which I have never thought of.  It's less expensive because a family actually donates the embryo, but I'm not sure about that because at least with a donor egg half the gentics are your husbands.  Lots to think about.  I'm actually waiting to miscarry right now...I have enough on my plate, but I need to start working plan B.  I'm afraid I'm going to have to have a D&C which I really want to avoid because the only thing I have going for me is a "fabulous uterus" - so I've been told.  I'm concerned that the D&C might cause scar tissue, plus there is extra recovery time for everything to heal before you can move on to plan B.  How old was your donor?  I didn't know you could share a donor - I guess that could be risky if she doesn't produce a lot of eggs.

Hi there. Did your own eggs not take? I'm sorry to hear that....and I so know what you're going through.  It's so hard.  I will tell you that if you have a good uterus (meaning no fertility issues with it) then donor eggs are the way to go if it's an option for you.  But it is a very difficult and tedious decision and one that took us a while to make.
We actually shared our donor with another couple (anonymously of course) so our cost was around $9k.  Our fertility doctor had a "donor book" in his office of women that were local to the area, and that's how we found our girl.
I think the cost can get really pricey if the donor is from out of state, because you have to incur all of their lodging/airfare etc for them AND a traveller, so they aren't alone.
It is true you aren't guaranteed any certain number of eggs from a donor, so what I would suggest is if you find one you like, ask what her previous cycles were like and if the previous couples using her eggs got pregnant.
Our girl's first ever donor cycle was the one previous to ours.  We got very lucky I think, we ended up with 8 fertilized eggs (that would make 16 total give or take), we transferred two and there were 3 that were viable enough to freeze which we did.   This was our first attempt using donor.  It was a hard decision because i really did want a genetic child, but let me tell you.....the second I found out I was pregnant...it didnt matter...these are my babies.  Does that make any sense?   I hope this helps you some.   If you have any more questions please let me know.

I just went through my final round of IVF using my own eggs - which I'm now waiting to miscarry.  The Dr suggested donor eggs or donor embryos.  I see you have had success with donor eggs - I'm worried because it seems so expensive (I've heard like $30,000) and your not guaranteed the donor is going to produce a lot of eggs and you might not get pregnant from them.  Any word of advice?  It seems like your experience has been good.  We are trying to figure out our options - donor egg, donor embyro (don't know much about that) or adoption.

That is awesome!.....and always a relief!  Congrats!  Of course now you will just worry until the next visit!  lol.  sorry you've been so sick!  i know how you feel.  i was miserable for several weeks.  luckily i feel better now.  still really tired and sometimes nauseous but nothing like before.  it was from about 11am till i went to bed...yuck.  orange juice, bananas and just eating small amounts thru out the day helped.  you may want to ask your doctor about zofran if it gets too bad.  now going to town is such a chore so i save up my errands then usually wear myself out.  last week i couldn't even finish b/c i really thought i might fall asleep driving.  i have a 3yr old that stays home so there's not alot of resting but i try!  sleeping is already uncomfortable so i can imagine a few months from now. i have not felt them yet but i think i will soon.  i have cramps that come and go but usually only last for a day or two then they are gone for a while.  my doctor has 2 sets of twins so he has been helpful w/ not only the medical advice but also personal experience from his wife.  make sure you find a doctor that specializes in multiple births and a level 3 hospital/nicu (level 2 minimum) just in case there is a problem.  it was an ordeal for me but i like my new doctor.  i had to switch b/c my old dr. only delivered at a level 1 hospital/nicu.  i do have major pain in my lower back (rt side only) that i know i'm going to have to go in for....oh the joys of being pregnant! :)  hang in there and i hope you start feeling better soon!!

Congrats to both of you!  My spotting has stopped finally!  I went to the doc today and got to see two little hearts beating.  THey were suprised because im so early ( 6 weeks tomorrow).  As I'm sure you both know, it just really cemented the whole thing, all I could do was cry. Hahaha!  I'm such a wimp lol.  It was a huge sigh of relief.  Dsmommy, are you feeling them moving yet?

As far as uterine pain, I've been having alot of crampish feelings in my lower abd, I hear it's just those muscles getting ready.  And boy, I have morning, noon and evening sickness  some days worse than others.  I try not to whine and complain, we've waited so long for these babies.  Please keep in touch and let me know how things go you guys!

So nice to hear from someone else pregnant w/ twins!  I am also expecting twins and it's been a bit overwhelming b/c it is just so different from my other pregnancies.  Luckily i didn't have any spotting but i know that lots of women do and alot of time it's just implantation bleeding so i will keep my fingers crossed for you syre!  Keep us posted!!!

did the n/t scan last thursday and it was just amazing how active they were at 12 weeks.  looks like a boy and girl!  YEAH!  but i know it's still early.  the boy in particular was bouncing all around and even pushing himself off the side of his cozy little sac.  the girl was asleep until the technician poked around and woke her up.  Then she got pretty active too!  I loved it!!  They took almost an hour for the u/s so it was great to see so much of them.

I too am pregnant with twins I found out when I was 6 weeks and 4 days. I am now 9 weeks. I too experience red/pink/brown spotting when I wiped and was so nervous and depressed about a week ago, I went to the ER, because of it.  I wanted to find out if my babies were still okay. They saw two heartbeats and all was fine. The ER staff contacted my ob who said that it is somewhat normal , especially with having twins. There will be extra pulling and tugging of the uterus. My husband and I are not sexually active, because we want to make sure this pregnancy goes well.

I am sure things are well with your twins too. We have to stay positive, encouraged and keep the faith.

Update- I went to the doc this morning, ultrasound says the twins are okay, no evidence of bleeding in the uterus.  Nurse told me that the spotting could be coming just from the vagina.   Still waiting on HCG results, but U/S shows babies growing.

Thank you all for your responses!

THank you!  They told us they saw yolk sacs but heartbeat wont be for another 2 weeks.  That's about all they could see.  The spotting is bright red/pink but no clots ( just on the pantyliner and some when i wipe) and as far as cramping, it's hard to tell because i've felt like i've been pms'ing for about 2 weeks or so.

Now I don't feel like too much of an idiot.. HAHA!

First of all, Congratulations! Spotting in early pregnancy does not always mean bad news, unless it's bright red and you're having cramping with it. I'm surprised you were able to detect anything by u/s already. Good luck! By the way, sometimes it helps to post in more than one forum...you're bound to get more replies.
