Need advice on possible ectopic pregnancy

I'm at exactly 6 weeks since my LMP, and I've had 5 hcg tests.  Based on the numbers, my RE suspects I have an ectopic pregnancy, so I'm scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow to see if he can at least see any sign of a pregnancy in my uterus.  In calling me with the test results, his nurse said there is no way to see a pregnancy in the tubes.  Is this true, or could a different sort of test/machine see an ectopic pregnancy?  If any of you have had an ectopic pregnancy, did you take that pill to dissolve it, and did it have side effects?  Or did you have surgery?  This is all so disappointing....Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi there.  You have posted on the bottom of a  3 year old thread, so you might find you get more responses from starting your own post.

It sounds like you may want to see your Dr. again. You can also try another HPT, but if you suspect an etopic pregnancy, it is important to seek medical attention.  Good luck.

I had an ectopic 20 years ago.  I had to have surgery.  The recovery was long.  I did have a son 4 years ago - it did not effect my fertility - but I hear it can in some people.  They didn't have the meds back then.  I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Thanks for the advice and support!  There seems to be little hope that this is a viable pregnancy, so sadly, I'm hoping it's "only" a miscarriage.  But I will heed your advice and take care of the ectopic immediately if needed.

I am sorry your going through this. I had an ectopic in my tube at 6 weeks. The u/s tech did see the "bulge" and I was scheduled for surgery because the shot doesn't always work and could take 2 doses. They didn't want me to rupture so they sent me to surgery. On my way to surgery, it ruptured!! They took my left tube out. So like Tanker Chic said, do not prolong your treatment, if it is ectopic take care of it right away so it doesn't cause further damage.

Again, I am sorry your going through this...take care

I had an ectopic back in feb/march...  The dr never did see it in my tube but he did look for it on multiple occasions.  The treatment is a shot of methotrexate... My advice is this.. I got pg from IUI so we had been trying a long time, and I really did not want to give up hope and take the shot.. I kept thinking just a couple more days maybe it will show up.. and besides he never has seen it in the tubes.. After many tears we decided to take the shot.. for me it did not work.. I had two shots each a week apart... first one at 6wks pg the second at 7wks pg.. at 8wks pg my tube started to rupture and I had to go to the ER and have surgery.. I lost my right tube..

So as hard as it is to face, I would not put off treatment.. If hcg's are low and/or not doubling and they don't see anything in the uterus.. take the shot before it is too late.. You really don't want to lose your tube.. or worse.. I'm really sorry.. I do understand how hard this is..

I don't know how long you have been trying, but I will tell you what my RE told me and he was RIGHT.. as much as it doesn't seem like it, this is a good sign.. The fact that you got pg means your chances of getting pg again are really good.. I'm 19wks today..

Take care.. and again, i'm really sorry.. ((hugs))

I've had 3 mc but none of them were ectopic so I can't really comment on that.  I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you have to go through this.
