OPK positive for 5 days when am I ovulating?

I know you are supposed to stop using OPK after your first positive result, but for my last 3 cycles I wanted to pinpoint my ovulation date and every time I have had the OPK give positive results for 5 days running. I have triple checked (and have had others to check too!) and I am not mis-reading the results.  Could it due to my age I'm 39?  I was led to believe that an OPK would only give a positive result for 2-3 days as you only ovulate for up to a period of 48 hours. If I am misinformed please let me know, there's is so much information out there it does get confusing.  I would be very grateful for any help or advice anyone could give me - many thanks.

As long as their is an elevated level of LH in your system you will get a positive on an OPK.  Even with OPK"s it is not really possible to pinpoint the exact date of ovulation.  All it tells you is that you are having an LH surge.  Most women will ovulated 12-72 hours after a positive with average being about 36 hours.  Most likely you have ovulated already and are just catching it on the way down.  It is also possible to have a surge more then once before actual ovulation....the body gears up for it if you will, then for some reason doesn't actually complete the process.  So it tries again.  However, every women is a bit different.  Honestly, you can drive yourself crazy with those things.  Daily intercourse for 3-4 days after the first positive is the best way to catch it.  Remember sperm also lives in the body for 3-5 days, so no worries if you don't catch the exact day of ovulation. It tends to work best having intercourse before the actual egg drops anyway.  Good luck.
