Please give me your input - OB Wants to Start Clomid

Hey you guys.  I posted something earlier and didn't get but one response.
I got a call from my ob yesterday who said that my 21 day progesterone level shows that I'm not ovulating.
She wants to start clomid and I have done some research and would like to know what you guys think og clomid, what your experiences are and any success you've had using it.  Please give me your knowledge on this.  Thanks.

I would suggest making sure the doc is a fertility specialist.  My regular OBGYN put me on Clomid for 3 cycles.  It made me ovulate, but it turned out that it thinned my uterine lining and my periods after those cycles lasted only a day and were scant.  Three cycles wasted!  You need to go to a fertility specialist and have them monitor your lining to determine if you need to take a progesterone supplement or other supplement (like an HcG shot) in addition to the Clomid.  Clomid also created hostile cervical mucus.  Before I ended up getting pg, my fertility specialist was going to put me on Femara, which also makes you ovulate, but does not affect your lining or dry your cervical mucus.  Femara is used off-label.    Can cause birth defects if used accidentally when you are already pregnant.

I was on a number of fertility drugs but responded best on Clomid + HMG (Menopur/Repronex).  Our first round took 4 IUIs but unfortunately ended in a cornual ectopic pregnancy, but was successful after 5 IUIs on our second round.  I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and will deliver at 42.

My only warning would be that the side effects can be wicked -- mood swings, hot flashes, irritability, etc, etc, but they did get better over time.  For me, it was worth it.

If you TTC more than 6 months and unsuccessful.. then you need fertility medicines to help you ovulate.. That's the first step... Some people did conceive first round of clomid.. some take awhile.. In my case.. I took 7 cycles of clomid and unsuccessful... I did ovulate, but somehow I can't conceive.. later on  found out one of my left tube blocked.. I had laparascopy surgery to check my uterus to see anything wrong as well as flush the tube.. After that.. I got pregnant within that month...UNEXPECTED  {without any fertility medicines}

Clomid does give you some side effects.. such as hot flash, mood swings, headache, bloating, etc... I suggest you take your clomid at night time.. That's way you do not have to deal with all the mood swing during day time and ppls around you do not have to take all your "craps"... :-)  I got mood swings really bad to the point my husband didn't want to have baby anymore... so night time is the best time to take that medicine..

Good luck to you and hope you will conceive soon..

take care

I ovulate on my own but took Clomid 3 times to help me release more than one egg and increase my chances of preg. 2 of those times I conceived the first cycle. But I did MC. Sometimes it gives you side effects similar to menopause (hot flashes, moodiness, bloating). But for most people, it is the natural 1st step. Good luck to you.

I took Clomid 100mg for one cycle. Days 5 through 9. I am currently 20 wks. pregnant with a baby boy.  It worked for me. The only side effects that I had was hot flashes. Good luck to you!!

I also was shown to not ovulate regularly. Back in 2006 when ttc baby #1 doc finally prescribed Clomid. I did not ovulate at all on 50mg but on my 2nd round of 100mg I finally got pregnant. We had been ttc for 9 months before I got my BFP.
My daughter will be 3 in Dec.

Decided this year to ttc baby #2. Doc automatically put me back on 100mg of Clomid yet it did not work for me like before and I did not ovulate or produce any mature eggs. He upped it to 150mg which had horrible side effects but it did work and I began to ovulate. Well ended up needing back surgery so I took a 2 month break from the 150mg Clomid and ended up getting pregnant on my own. We were shocked.  I am now 22 weeks along with a baby boy.

So Clomid I feel does work once you find the proper dose that ensures you ovulate.
Best of luck!
