Possible urinary infection

I noticed a week or so ago that I sometimes have a little bit of pain in my back, left side. Several years ago I had severe pain in the same area and it ended up being a urinary infection (I had no pain urinating at the time and I don't have any right now). I see my OB-GYN in 2 weeks: can I wait until then to have a urine test or should I go to the urgent care before that? The pain is not too bad, so for me I can wait, but would waiting be bad for the baby? I am 14 weeks pregnant.

I'm glad you dont have a UTI.  That is good news.

I also had problems with my sciatic nerve during pregnancy.  Its not much fun at all.  Hope you feel a little better soon.

Hello,

I did go to the Urgent Care, partly because I'll be gone all next week and because I needed to know what was going on. Good news: it is not a urinary track infection!

The doctor thinks the back pain is because I have a retroverted uterus, and that would also explains the strange numbness in my left thigh, something that started 2 weeks ago: the sciatic nerve is compressed. It would also explain why I need to empty my bladder all day and all night, even though I am still early in my pregnancy. The uterus should put itself in a normal position between 16-20 weeks and these symptoms will go away - of course they'll come back during the 3rd trimester!

I agree with mjmom69 - a UTI is nothing to wait around on.

During my pregnancy I thought I had a UTI and called the doctors office.  They had me come in that day and do a urine test and then prescribed antibiotics.  Its very simple to test for UTI and if you do have one, its important to get treatment as soon as you can.

I would go to urgent care. If it is a UTI, they can get bad, fast! I had one that lasted 4 months! The pain got so bad at times. Went thru 4 rounds of antibiotics before it finally went away. It could just be pregnancy pains, but since you've had the same symptoms before, I'd just go have it checked out. Hope that helps.
