Pregnant at 43
This is a duplicate post from TTC over 40, but I wanted to let people know about my news...
Hi all. I've been waiting patiently to let you all know that I successfully conceived naturally and am now almost 12 weeks pregnant at 43 years of age. The growth scan at 9 weeks looked good and the heartbeat was strong (178). I'm 12 weeks on Tuesday and go for my NT scan on Thursday. Very different reaction this time around. I was offered a CVS as soon as they saw the heartbeat as my chances of having a baby with Downs is so high. We've been TTC for so long that no matter what happens, we're keeping the baby. I've prepared my parents who are very supportive. My dm said, "I must have raised you well because I believe that there's a place in this world for everyone." I have a gut feeling that it does have DS. I have a friend with a son with DS and he's just a doll. There are no guarantees in life and certainly one can have negative amnio results and still have a baby with autism. Wish me luck.

That's right. Your little guy and mine are pretty close in age aren't they. Ohhh....I am just so glad this has happened for you again. And you know, just when I am ready to throw in the towel someone like you reminds me that this can and does happen. It renews my resolve and I am so grateful you choose to share your news here. Thank you. And cannot wait to hear about the next scan. You know it's funny. There are so many of us that have shared so much on this forum over the years. When good things happen to one of you, it's almost as exciting as if it had happened to me. Funny how it can be like that.

Amanda, I think of you often as we have shared such similar journeys with our sons being born in our 40s around the same time and in our trials and tribulations in trying to conceive another. I hope it will happen for you soon.

Congrats! I am 42, 43 in a couple of months. I have 4 children already ranging in ages from 22 to 10. I am 35w preg at the moment. I had a miscarriage around this time last year which ripped my heart out. I thought my child bearing years were over and had given up. But its when you give up that something happens, I fell preg 3 months after. Now I have GD and apparently my baby is already weighting 7lbs, I have been told that a scan can be out by a lbs or two. I know for a fact if my son has DS I will love him. They are the most loving kids. I tested 1 in 40 before 12 week screening and after the testing it went up to 1 in 880 (trisomy). Was advised that I need not have any invasive testing as they were happy with the results.

WHOOOHOOOO! That is just such fantastic news and I am over the moon for you. This journey can be such a long one, and it's always so great to hear success! And if your 12 weeks and everything has been good, chances are extremely high that this one is going the distance. Absolutely fabulous.
As for the DS issue. I know the odds seem high, but when put into perspective, they are actually quite low if you know what I mean. I am still ttc no. 2 and will be 43 in January. When I really sit and think about the odds, I am honestly not that worried about it. Your attitude though is so great, and it makes me so happy to hear that no matter what, you are going to be a momma. I don't know if you remember Pertykitty. She is pretty busy these days, and not on all that often. Her beautiful daughter Macy was born with DS last year. I am in touch with her, and if in fact your child does have DS, I know she would be more then happy to talk to you about her experience and how Macy has changed her life (all for the better...that is one beautiful amazing baby). It really changed my attitude as well, and, like you, DS is no longer something I fear.
Please keep posting here. It's so inspirational to hear someone who tried for so long and never gave up achieve her dream. And I know many will benefit from your pregnancy experiences as things progress.
