Prescribed medication...

A concern I have for when I get pregnant is that I am on several medications.  I take Prilosec for reflux and Questran for diarrhea that is related to having my gallbladder removed. I also take Zyrtec-D twice a day for allergies.   Will I have to discontinue these medications during pregnancy?  Odds are, I won't need the Questran anyway, due to prenatal vitamins typically causing constipation (which is a blessing for someone like me!)  Any input is appreciated!

Hi there!  Unfortunately there are no actual Dr's on this site.  So those of us posting here can only really speak from personal knowledge, although there are a few nurses, etc.  I know that personaly I am not comfortable giving medication recommendations and strongly urge you to consult your Dr., preferrably an OB as to what the recommended course of action would be for these meds during a pregnancy.  I would recommend you do this prior to conception in case some need to be switched and your body needs time to adjust to the new medications.  What I can tell you is that there are not many conditions out there that cannot be successfully managed during a pregnancy, so I have no doubt you will have no trouble, it's just that a few changes may be required.  I always suggest women have full physicals prior to trying to conceive and that is a great opportunity to discuss with your Dr. changes that may need to be made.

Good luck on trying to conceive and I wish you all the best!  Keep us updated!

I take prilosec every day and my doctor says its fine.  I would get off the zyrtec D and start the 24 hour zyrtec liquigels. You only take it once a day.  You don't need the decongestant in the zyrtec D.  You may be stuffy for a few days until you ween yourself off the decongestant but you will be okay.  If you have that much diarrhea try taking some iron pills. I take 324 mg b/c of low iron.  It makes you go a couple of times a day and regulates you and your stool. Oh I'm 7 months pregnant and my baby is perfectly healthy and I take these two drugs.

You didn't post in the wrong forum at all.  THis forum is filled with great women who have a wealth of information.  Medications is just one where a Dr. is the best person to talk to.  They know your history, and are better able to weigh benefit vs. risk for you.  But keep posting here...just about anything you experience in your road to conceiving and during pregnancy will have been experienced by someone else.  Let us know how your doing!

Thank you very much for your input!  I guess I posted in the wrong forum.  It's amazing how nervous you can be about these things!  There is so much to learn and all the information out there can be a bit overwhelming!
