Progesterone

I'm 37 y/o and 6 weeks pregant. I just found out my progesterone level is 7 so my doctor put me on 200mg of Prometrium. What I want to know is if they found this out too late. Is there still hope that my levels can go up and my pregnancy can be saved? I've already had 3 miscarriages in the past.

Thanks ladies. I haven't had any signs of a m/c. My breasts are still very tender, I get nauseated and I am breaking out all over my face like crazy. I don't know if they checked my HCG levels. I thought about it later and thought it was weird that they didn't bother checking them. After all they did draw 21 tubes of blood. I'll find out soon enough if this pregnancy will stick. I go back to the doctors office on Tuesday.

Congrats to you!!  It's really hard to say to be honest, but like Scout said, if you are not having any signs or symptoms of miscarriage, try not to worry. As she and IceRayven also said, there is so much controversy in the medical community about progesterone supplements, when to start them and if they even work, that I don't think anyone knows for certain.  Keep in mind as well that progesterone can really fluctuate.  It's not like HCG where in increases a certain amount, etc.

Try not to focus on the numbers, but on the fact that right now all looks good.

Congrats again, and best of luck to you!

If you don't have any miscarriage symptoms I wouldn't worry about it to much.

It is a controversial thing. It may or may not stop an impending miscarriage. It also might make no difference and the pregnancy will still go on. If you start experiencing cramps/spotting/bleeding or reduction of pregnancy symptoms then I would start worrying

Congratulations on this pregnancy!!  And I'm sorry about your other losses.  I've had 3 m/c as well.  I think there are differing opinions on this.  Some doctors think progesterone should be started right after ovulation for it to be of use. Other's wait until a positive pregnancy test to start it.  So really it's hard to know for sure.

With my most recent pregnancy, my progesterone was only 5.8 at about 4-5 weeks and my doc put me on the supplements and when I got tested again 3 days later it was over 40.  I still m/c'd.  I think I read about another lady on here who was put on after a positive hpt and she carried full term and had a healthy baby.  Honestly, I think there is so much that doctors just don't know.

How are you hcg levels?  I think if those are really good then you have a better chance.  with my m/c my 1st 2 draws were good but the 3rd showed my levels weren't doubling, not even close, so I think in my case the m/c was more about a bad egg than the progesterone.

I wish I had more of a definitive answer but I don't.  I really don't think it's too late if everything else is progessing as it should.  I've read about success stories with progesterone starting out low.  so don't give up hope.  I'll be thinking of you and wishing you loads of good luck that this one sticks.
