Prometrium Question

So I have now been on Prometrium (orally, 300mg a day) for about a week.  I have looked it up on the web, and all the sites related to it say to take it before you are pregnant, but not to take while you are pregnant.  I am completely confused.  My OB prescribed it knowing absolutely I was pregnant, and has me on it up until the end of the first trimester.  Also, it seems the symptoms mimic pregnancy symptoms.  Has anybody had a negative outcome using this drug?  I know a lot of women on here have talked about being on it.  Any thoughts?

I'm on the suppositories for up to 10 weeks. I was too worried about not taking it and had the same questions when I heard "not to take when pregnant". My OB and RE said the body will take what it wants and discard the rest so it won't hurt.

Hoep this helps. I have no insight on the orally vs supposetory difference. I will say I can't wait to discontinue. It's becoming annoying. :)

Its kind of interesting that all of you guys are on suppositories, and I have been prescribed them orally.  I am supposed to take them on an empty stomach.  I wonder what the difference is.  Every little thing is worrying me these days, I am obsessing I know.  But curious, anyone else had them prescribed orally?

I'm on them also and my RE told me to stop aftr the first trimester.  Progesterone suppositories help to substaine a pregnancy.

I've been on progesterone until week12 using suppositories once a day.  After 12 week I had to stop them gradually for like 2 weeks first take them every other day, then every third day and the final 2 I took every 3 days.  I just finished them all last week.  I'm 16w5d.

Well friend you know Ive been on it and I think after the end of next week he's taking me off of it. Ive read similar material....but because my progestrone was low and my 2 m/c thats why he put me on it.  And my DR told me that your body is to naturally produce it to support the fetus til wk 10-12 when the placenta takes over.  And often women over 35 will produce less than half of what we need to maintain a preg.  Trust me i questioned it too.

Plus Meli had shared with me before about her last 2 preg she used it and it give me alot of confidence as well.

My OB never actually told me what my progesterone levels were, but I have had a few m/c now.  I know he did test my progesterone levels, so I am assuming.  He has me on the drug until week 12.

Meli - thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

I think it's Ok for the begining of the pregnancy.  You need progesterone to support a new pregannacy.
Was your progesterone low??
