Should I take baby asprin without Dr. say so?

So my OB/GYN sent me for bloodwork the day before I got my positive HPT.  One of the things he was testing for was progesterone.  I am not scheduled to see him again until May 9th.  I called his office this morning to let them know I was pregnant again (so I guess no need to go on the chlomide..lol)  They said to keep the 9th app. as that would put me at about 4 weeks gestation.  (I know when I ovulated, but had not had a normal cycle between this pregnancy and last, so its the best we can do for dating).  Obviously my biggest fear in losing this one as well.  I have heard many of you talk about baby asprin, and although he had talked about progesterone the next time (this time now), he never said a word about baby asprin.  If I take it anyway, can it do any harm?  Or do you think maybe not a bad idea considering my history.  Not sure what I should do.  Thanks all.

Thanks all.  THis is where my reading too much is sometimes not a good thing..lol.  I had read that taking baby asprin can help prevent miscarriage, but no, no one has said anything to me about a clotting problem, and they have done a fair amount of testing on me.  I guess I just worry the Dr. might miss something, and I can't stand the thought of losing this one.  My Dr. has talked about progesterone, and I had blood work to test the levels the day before I got my positive HPT.  I see my OB/GYN a week tomorrow, so I will wait and see what he says.

Thanks for the advice.

I would not take the asprin unless your Dr thinks you have a blood clotting problem b/c the baby asprin is for blood thinning and if you don't need your blood thinned it can be harmful to take it......so I'd wait til your appt and ask him about it.  Good luck

I agree with Jenny.  I would wait for a recommendation on the baby aspirin from your Dr.   I've had 3 m/c and am on a regime of 1 baby aspirin a day, but that was on the recommendation from my RE after ALOT of fertility testing.  I'll take it through the frist trimester and then quit.  It is for clotting disorders and if you aren't diagnosed with something like that then it's not worth taking on a whim.

The progesterone is a separate thing too from the aspirin.  If those levels are off or low, they may put you on a supplement of that too.  I have a progesterone suppository that I take as soon as I become preggers, just to be sure it's not that...all though my levels were fine with this last pregnancy...it was the baby that didn't develop.

if your issue is progesterone, baby aspirin will not do anything for that.  Baby aspirin is used as a blood thinner for people with blood clotting issues - I would not start on it until/unless your doctor tells you to take it.  If you have a history of bleeding easy then taking it may make things worse - you never know.  I have homozygous MTHFR mutation which is one of the blood clotting disorders and take baby aspirin for it, but I would not take it without doctor's approval if you already have a positive.

What is the baby aspirin for, I'v had 6 kids ranging from 22 to 4 and never had to deal with any of that. Never had a m/c or anything til last year. So I know nothing about any of that but know that I'v had 2 m/c in 5 months I want to know all I can.

this is a great question....i was told my levels for factor 5 blood clotting were low so they were considered abnormal...given my faint positive yesterday i was wondering the same thing

i just lost my baby at 18 weeks due to what my doc believes is a blood clot....so i started taking baby aspirin today

i heard it is not harmful but i think in my situation i need to take it or something....

i would suggest mentioning it to your doctor and see what they say...

im still waiting for my line to get darker and get in with my doc to see what she says to do...but i want to be ahead of the game

best of luck
