Sonohysterogram

Has anyone ever gotten a Sonohysterogram?  I now have to get this done.  Just spoke with my OBGYN yesterday and she suggested i get this done.  Of course, many of you know, we are trying to conceive.  We miscarried in March.  And now feeling so down because this is just another step I have to take to try to conceive.  One issue after another.  Feeling so down :(

no there is a difference between the sonohysterogram and the hysteriosalpinogram.
the saline one is the SHG and the dye one is the HSG
the saline one did not hurt one bit, the dye one is rather uncomfortable when they inflate your tubes but the pain stops when they finish.
so don't stress about the saline one.  all they do is pass a small catheter up through your cerivx (the reason they want it on a certain day of your cycle is so your cervix is open and not closed) and inject saline while they ultrasound your uterus.
they probably want your bladder full so make sure you ask about that and bring water to drink.
i would NOT take motrin as NSAIDS like ibuprofen have been shown to decrease fertility.  if you have to take something, take tylenol. but honestly i needed nothing after this test and went back to work afterwards without any problems.

they wrote it as "sonohysterogram" on my paperwork.  Well, it must be the same as hysteriosalpinogram, because that's exactly what they are going to do.  Its the saline procedure.  I'll make sure i take motrin before hand just in case.  Thanks ladies.  This helps.  I wonder, if my periods are about every 21-24 days, and they want me to do this on day 8 or 9, i normally have to begin testn for ovulation on day 11 because my periods are so short.  hopefully it will work this month.  Today is day 24 for me and I do feel like Im goin go get AF!  Just waiting now to begin my CD's this month!

Thanks!! I am pretty sure it is some sort of relaxant, but i can still drive. At least it is in the same building as the fertility clinic and done by one of the RE's so i will get my answers right away. They are always very informative through any test. Letting you know exactly what they are doing and what they are seeing!

I had so many of these tests, I do tend to get the names all messed up. In my case they were all intended to get a better idea of what was happening in my uterus as I could conceive, just couldn't seem to carry.  Anyway, none of them were awful...a bit uncomfortable yes, but nothing to terrible.  And Krichar, I had to take antibiotics as well, although I don't remember anaprox?  Is it just before the test you take it?  Perhaps its a form of muscle relaxant or something...not sure.

I had this done as well - the hsg. Not bad. It gives the doc a great picture. Mine was on day 9. You can get pregnant that cycle, my doc said it can sometimes make it easier.

the sono is ultrasound based.  they place a catheter through your cervix into your uterus and inject saline.
HSG uses dye injected into your tubes and uses fluoroscopy.
endoscopy would be where they use a small digital camera (which i had done as a part of my d&c to remove the fibroids)

I had it as well.  I had the HSG and the Sono, which I believe is where they send a small camera in?  My results were the same as Andi's...never found a problem even though I had miscarried several times.  I agree, it was mildly uncomfortable, but not unbearable.  They did do a pregnancy test prior to make sure I wasn't currently pregnant.  Good luck.

are you asking about an HSG (hysteriosalpinogram) where they inject dye into you tubes to make sure they are open, or the saline hysteriogram where they inflate your uterus with saline to look at uterine structure (and possibly find polyps, fibriods, or endometriosis?)
the first is mildly painful when they inflate your tubes but certainly doable.
the second is not painful at all.
neither one will interfere with trying to get pregnant that cycle.

Oh goodness.  I planning pregnancy next month won't happen???  They said they want me to get it done on day 7 or 8 of my cycle.  Does it make you bleed?

I had one done in August of 2003. My results were completely normal, which was sort of hard to hear in that we were told our miscarriages were simply a matter of "bad luck." However, I did get pregnant that cycle and had my middle son 9 months later. We sort of joked it cleaned out the pipes.

I will say, it is mildly unpleasant, definitely take Motrin and/or Tylenol beforehand. Also, when they say go home and rest, do that. I did not and found myself doubled-over in a grocery store in absolute agony.

Please keep your chin up. This is one more step, but it may be an important one.
