Suuogacy & Donor Egg

What's the typical cost for surrogacy and donor egg? Has anyone been though this and could share some of your experience?

Hi,  Joanne, I live in Canada and just had an IVF done with donor eggs and am currently  5 wks pregnant.    Egg donation itself is not illegal in Canada but actually PAYING them is illegal....so they are reimburshed for their time, meds, etc....and of course a "gift" is given :)

For those ladies on here that have done donor eggs, you're all in the USA correct? I was under the impression that donor eggs were not allowed in Canada so if you wanted donor eggs and you live in Canada you'd have to hop across the border in order to do so?? Anyone know?
Thanks
Joanne

If you pick a donor and everything and don't have problems with the donor backing out or having problems during testing you might be able to get it done within 4 months.   THere are a couple of months of testing that need to be done.  Then a month on birth control pills or whatever to synchronize the cycles and then the 10 days of injections and then the egg retrieval and then the transfer.   So about 4 months.   From the time we decided to do things it was about 13 months to the point of the egg transfer.  We had issues with 3 donors.   But I think we just got unlucky.  Lots of times it just depends on the donor pool that is available to you too.

They got 50 eggs from our egg donor!

Hi, i am 37 and in the process of picking a donor with IVFNJ.  They have awesome stats and I have a firend who donated for them and said it was a wonderful experience.  Even if we have a 75% shot on a fresh cycle, it is higher than natural conception.  How long did the process take you once you picked a donor?

At 43, I am about to do a DE with IVFNJ in May.  I would like to know about any experiences women have had with this center.  They have excellent SART stats.  Any advice, recommendations?

Good luck on your upcoming IVF!  How exciting - my own IVF (2nd one) was exactly one year ago.  The retrieval was the 10th and transfer the 14th.  Pregnancy test (hpt) - 23rd and beta the 24th.  Sorry for the rant about my memories!  It was such a special time.

I hope everything goes okay - I'll say a prayer, chant, light a candle, fertility ritual (just being silly!) - heck, anything that'll aid the process!  So I'll wish you SSBD - keep me posted.  I'm excited for you - jennifer

Yes, I agree sometime in the future we have to deal with telling him how special he is to the family. It's good to hear from others experience about surrogacy and donor egg. To be honest we aren't sure we are ready and would openly accept these. Just curious...

Let's hope my next IVF works, maybe give it a trial of three times and life move on.

Thanks again for all your sharing and I wish you the best.

Yes, I will tell him about this.  My re recommended that I do so as his siblings know and even if they were sworn to secrecy, I know he'd eventually find out and I'm not sure what his reaction would be.  I want to make it clear that there's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in this situation.

I feel so blessed to have him here but this is all new territory for me.  I mean, I was pregnant w/him; yet, he's not mine genetically speaking.  How does one explain all of that?  It's not like there are tons of books out there helping a child understand this complicated concept although I'm sure I can find some to help me word it so he understands it at whatever age level he's at.

I really don't know how this will all come about.  I know I will wait until the time's right - kind of like when your child asks you about Santa and in your heart you know it's time to gently explain it.

I really hope this helps - you sound like you're seriously considering donor egg/surrogacy.  It's good that you're addressing your concerns before and not after the fact.  I wish I had looked for someone to talk to about all of my concerns, wishes, etc.

We didn't use an attorney.  Maybe it was because we used a donor through our fertility clinic - I'm not sure.  There were lots of 'legal' paperwork to be signed - most of it is signed anyway for IVF for the disposition of the embryos.  Examples of this would be what would happen to the embryos if the couple divorced, died, etc.  Now that I think of it there are papers signed that were for the protection of the donor's anonymity, etc.

Our name was on the birth certificate.  As far as I understand, there's no way Noah could get the name of the donor if he went looking for it years from now although i read an interesting story in Cosmo (yes, I know, Cosmo!) about a young woman looking for the sperm donor who helped w/her conception.  She went to all kinds of lengths in trying to find him in order to get pertinent medical history.

We did get a copy of the donor's med history in case there's a future problem w/Noah & doctors need it for some reason.  I hope this helps!

I'm in the beginning stages of looking at donor eggs.  You will need an attorney but the donor egg agency (if you use one) can take care of that.  Your name will be on the birth certificate since you will be the one giving birth.

Good luck.

Are there a lot of legal paper work involved like hiring an attorney?
How about the parents name listed on the birth certificate? Maybe I am confused with adoption process which I am not familiar with.

We used my husband's sperm & since my donor was anonymous, we didn't meet her - didn't even see a photo of her. I did very well during pregnancy - it felt like we conceived him w/ my own egg but I did have a little trouble after he was born when everyone said how much he looked like my husband (those who knew we used donor eggs) & then there would be this awkward silence.  Now looking back, I think it was more post-partum emotions than any regret believe me.

I feel great about using donor eggs.  We wouldn't have Noah if we hadn't gone down that road. & having a baby was the ultimate goal - hope this helps!

Thank you all for responding to my questions. Any infor. really helps us in deciding which route to go down in the future. My first IVF failed and am getting ready for the next cycle sometime soon. I guess I was over concerns since my ovaries did not response too well with the medication and my doc. mentioned something about poor egg quality if he can gets a better stats after the second trial eventhough I am 36.

You can see that my level of confident is not high and I am just planning the options for us.

How do you feel of with donor egg especially they are not your own? At least own husband sperm right?  Have you met the donor in person?

Thanks!

My insurance do not cover egg donor fees. My fee to the actual donor was $10,000. I also had a great experience.

Do insurance companies typically cover egg donor fees?

I didn't have surrogacy but we used donor eggs.  The cost for us was around $18,000 not including the meds - that includes the cost for the donor's time.  I had some meds from my previous IVF that we were allowed to give the donor.  The cost ranges from clinic to clinic.

I had a wonderful experience.  We got pregnant the first time and delivered in April - a healthy baby boy.  It was probably the easiest pregnancies that I've experienced even though I was 44 (now am 45).

I don't know what the cost of surrogacy is - you could check a clinic's website to get an idea.  Pm me if you have any questions & good luck to you!
