The name Hannah Katherine for our baby...

won't work. We just found out IT'S A BOY! Darn...we liked that name so much and we hadn't found any yet for a boy that just seemed perfect. Our two kids want the name Jon...Jonathan for the full name.

The u/s was sooo cute. She printed out about 15 pics for us because my little guy was so active...waving, sucking his thumb wiggling his legs, etc. And I swear that his profile looks EXACTLY like his brother who is now 6.

The only bummer is that we have a soft marker for Down's but my last test showed that I was 1:500 on the risk scale. The Maternal Fetal Specialist doctor said that we need my bloodwork from today to really be definitive, but the marker is something with the heart and is not a structural abnormality just a soft finding (can't remember what it's called. EIG or something??) and she said that most of the time those with this marker are born just hunky dory and normal. She thinks this will raise my risk from 1:500 to maybe 1:300 pending blood work.

Anyone have this as well or hear of this? I'm really not worried, but am curious.

I'm not sure if others are as concerned about this as I am, but I don't want to give my children any really popular names, i.e., in the top 20 or even top 50.  I don't want them to have to be the 4th Emily or Jacob in their class!

If you want to know about the popularity of the names you like, check the Social Security website:

What a great idea!!! Starting that one tonight. That way the kids can "play" too but putting up names they like. Thanks for the idea!!

With big families, I think it is pretty common to have names used more than once.  Go with what you like.

Dh and I put up a dry erase board.  If we liked a name, we would write it on the board and try it on for a while.  See if we grew attached to it or got sick of it.  We would erase and add names as we went along.

Wow everyone has such interesting names!!! I love them all. Unfortunately my hubby is all about non-interesting names for boys...he's too afraid of nicknames growing up so we're leaning towards some traditional names that take after family members...

pcarsey...our family is JUST like yours. Immediate family gatherings are no less than 60 people!!! So far no name repeats either...can you believe it? \

* Christopher William (after his bro and my dad)
* I think it was Tanker Chic that suggested Nolan?? I love that...darn hubby wasn't thrilled although I thought he would be b/c of Nolan Ryan (huge bball fan).
* Lucas (Luke) -- although it is a cousin's name
* Matthew Gerald -- cousin's name...not crazy about Gerald but it's hubby's dad's name
* Andrew William -- no one's claimed this one yet!!
* Jonathan (Jonny for short) Christopher -- no one's claimed this one yet either!
* Justin Christopher - and no one's claimed this yet, either.

Anyhoo....guess we DO have 5 more months to figure it out. Well, 5 more months God willing, that is!

I have 2 nieces named Sarahbeth, but one is spelled Sarabeth. And there are 5.. Yes 5 Steven's! I have a HUGE family. I'm the youngest of 9 and all my brothers and sister but 2 have grandchildren now. There is about 75 in my immediate family! Yeah...It's really hard coming up with different names!! But I could give ya a list of some of the names. They are interesting!! I am convinced we are having a girl and her name will be Zaria Rayne, but iffin by chance it comes out a boy then his name will be Brayden Levi!
I also Love the Boy names...
Dakota
Keegan
Cayden
Aiden
Tyler
Zachary
Seth
Mika
Naquia
Logan
.... I could go on and on...

I think it's absolutely fine naming a child the same name as a relative... Think about it this way... you always shorten the name when talking to them.. and they always seem to end up with nick names.. I would and not think anything of it if that's the name you like!

I actually like the name Jonathan, but my hubby is not sold. Unfortunately my hubby is one of seven brothers and sisters and there are 15 (almost 16) grandkids in the family, not to mention 5 on my side so all the good names are already taken!!

I like Jacob/Jake but it's already taken and my hubby would LOVE Nolan (huge bball fan).

Actually this is an interesting question...do you gals see anything wrong with naming a child a name already given to an immediate relative? Does it get confusing for grandparents??

hey christina,

I typed up a whole post and then hit the wrong stupid button. I hate it when that happens.  Anyway.  Congrats on the boy.  We were the same way.  We had all kinds of girl name ideas and no boy names.  I think it is a lot harder to come up with good boy names.  here are the ones that were on our list.  You mind find it helpful.

Jacob (Jake)
Nolan
Carson
Jack
Elliot (Eli)
Sawyer

Good luck with your blood work.  I think your attitude is great.  Focus on the good part.  Those odds are still better than when it is based on age alone.  Well depending on your age.  I think for 36 or 37 it is 1 in 287.
