This is new for me....

So this pregnancy is completely different then any other I have experienced.  I am hoping that's a good thing!!  Two new things have started that have never happened to me before.  1. My urine is really dark...kinda weird.  2. I am unbelievably thirsty, all the time.  I can't seem to get enough water.  I think I am dehydrated because my lips are chapping as well.  I am drinking a tonne of water, but am still thirsty.  Anyone else have these symptoms?  Are they caused by pregnancy, or do you think it's something else?  As always, I appreciate the info.....Amanda

Amanda,
I'm 6w 4 days and also thirsly and craving sour things 24/7!  I bought a bag of Warheads candy (the most sour things I've ever eaten) and I've eaten so many that my tongue was bleeding yesterday!  CRAZY!   I hope you get a huge beta test today!  I'm thinking about you!

Manda....... I wouldn't worry about a thing! Gestational Diabetes wouldn't develop until later in pregnancy.. not this early... still, ask you doctor hun.... but let me tell you that when I was pregnant with Maddie (second time) I was a drinking machine too! since the begining.... and one gross thing: (sorry TMI!) is that my pee stank BAAAD and was real dark. I never tested for UTI's or anything.. it was just the way it was... =) so it's very normal! it's actually really good to drink tons of water if you need to! =))

I am SO FLIPPIN' EXCITED for you girlie! you go girlfriend!!!! =) stay baby! stay!!!!

Have you thought about names yet???  I know it's kinda hard at the beginning of a pregnancy, specially when you've had losses before... but I'm kinda curious to hear if you have any favorites already! =)

Hi Amanda, I think things are looking great for you!  I can't wait to hear your beta numbers.  I'm with tbeards, I have twins and the thirst has been UNREAL this pregnancy.  I thought maybe it was a twins thing but I see several other singleton moms experienced it also.  Anyway, congratulations on your BFP and I am thrilled things are going so good for you this time.  Let us know your beta numbers asap!  Good Luck

I agree w/hannah, Amanda.  Thirst is a very common sign of pregnancy - i too drank water like none other!  I now wondered if I was slightly dehydrated - anyway, maybe try some Gatorade diluted w/water?  Sounds gross but it might be worth a try.

Hon, I can't wait either to hear about your beta results - you must be so excited - hang in there!  Hope you had a good weekend - jen

Amanda,

With this pg, the thirst thing hasn't been as much of a big deal but I still have increased thirst... with my last pg.. I was a water drinking machine... I couldn't leave the house without a class of ice water and I never did that before..

I think this is a VERY good sign... best of luck girl.. i can't wait to see your results from the beta test...

Actually, its pretty much the same here and Regina.  I got in early to an OB in Regina my first pregnancy because I started spotting at about 5 weeks.  After that, I just called them when I got pregnant again and they just took me.  When we moved back to Calgary my OB in Regina referred me to her as I had my third miscarriage just as we were moving.  I was referred in for testing and she is the one that ran all the tests to try to figure out what was going on.  Now, because it's been 5 losses plus being 40 they consider me high risk and monitor me right from the beginning.  She still isn't going to see me this time until 7 weeks....I have been just doing things over the phone.  I kind of call the nurse and tell her what I am going to do...lol.  The early ultrasound is normal after losses.

I guess they are all different (provinces and between the doctors in them) here I couldn't get anyone to order me a beta to save my life. They really don't want to see you until abt 10-12 weeks here either (BC).  If you know your dates and don't have any spotting the very first ultrasound would probably be at 20 weeks.
Hope your results are good tomorrow,
Sounds like you're on track :-O)

I called in today to try to get Beta numbers...they won't have them until the morning...arrgghhh.  It's weird, when we lived in Regina I always seemed to be able to get them in a couple of hours..not so in Calgary.  Anyway, I asked the nurse about the thirst and the urine, as well as that weird discharge I had over the weekend (which has completely stopped...yay!!).  She said all was normal, although when I see her at 7 weeks (just after my ultrasound) I should bring it up again.  She didn't seem even remotely concerned.  Now, if I could just know those Beta numbers, I could relax!!!  I feel more and more confident every day!!

The thirsty thing is what made me test for Cooper and Cruz!! I still drink water like a camel!!!!!!! For some reason I just can't get enough!!!!!!! I do not have GD so I am not sure if that is a sign for that!!

You sound like you are well on your way to have a symptom full 9 months!!! That is awesome! Hey did you get your second beta today???

That is funny you posted that because with my last pregnancy I couldn't believe how thirsty I would get, like I just couldn't get enough. I also had dark urine the whole time with #2. Well, turns out a lot of women expecting twins experience those symptoms!! Maybe post that question in the multiples forum for fun??? I never had them while pregnant with my dd. I didn't have GD with either pregnancy either. Hmmm. Not saying this is a diagnosis so please don't skewer me anyone reading this! It still could be something else though or just pregnancy in general. Don't worry, the OB checks your urine more than you ever thought possible LOL!

Congrats again Amanda!

Hiya,
I'm pretty sure I had chapped lips....but then again it was Jan / Feb so that may have been par for the course, I was also very thirsty (but then again I do have early GD so....) I would mention the thirst to your Doc, they may want to add a fasting blood sugar to your initial blood work since you'll be going for blood anyway. For me my Nipples were tender and sore sore sore for two months, agh!

I hear you on the water thing, I thought I had the flu at first "as I was told I could not get pregnant" and that maybe I was dehydrated from that but, I drank all the time, still do and my lips are still chapped!   Welcome to the wonderful world of being prego LOL   not sure why this happens.

Usually dark urine means you're pregant, that what my doctor told me.  The thirsty can be a bad sign, that is a big sign for Gestational Diabetes, please let your doctor know and they may want to test you early to see if you have it.  Does diabetes normally run in your family?

I think this pregnancy is going to be the one.  I'm sooo happy for you and Warren.  When will you get you second beta reading results?  I wish you the best girl and me and Gav Man will be praying for you.

Love Ya
Debbie

Hi sweetie!! Can't wait to see how your next beta comes out.  My lips were so chapped during my pregnancy.  Don't know why or what it has to do with. Hmm??
