Trisomy 18, scared and upset

So I got a call from my doctor that I have a one in 81 chance of my baby having Trisomy 18, from my preliminary test results. Going in today for a more a more conclusive test but I am freaking out, has anyone else gone through this?

I know it's hard waiting I had to wait for my results too. .. mine came back sooner so hopefully yours will too. ...I have also work closely with t13 and 18 babies and each one is a great blessing. .. you find what they like and how to make them comfortable. .. my experience has been the pain has been minimal and they just want to be held and cuddled... hope this helps... I'll be praying for you!

I went in for a second panel screening that is a news non invasive test that tells us 100 percent but it takeso two weeks for results, I also have a level 2 ultrasound scheduled for Dec 11th as well to look if physical symptoms are present. I 100 percent agree that in most cases I would  welcome any baby with any condition or special needs it is just tisomy 18 is such a severe debilitation that most babies don't even survive their first week of life if by some miracle they do there life is constant sickness and pain until they die as young toddlers . Thanks for everyones support I am trying to just be positive and relax until I know anything further

I'm waiting for the results of my genetic testing.  It won't change anything for me, I'd still want to go forward.  I think of it as more information I can have to (hopefully) be prepared for my little one, no matter what.  I second the above comment to keep your chin up!

From my research, there are a lot of false positives with the first round of the screening.  What this the first or second round of your screenings?

I had that scare with my second son,  I googled everything and freaked myself out even more,  I had to have an amniocentesis to confirm it.  When the tests came back negative I was relieved,  have they offered you a amniocentesis yet,  that's a 100%

Try not to worry loads of them tesys have palse positives they arnt accurate enough ive known people whos test came out positive and their babies are fine and healthy. I personally chose not to acceptthe test as I will love my baby no mmatter what she would just need more live and care than a healthy baby

My doctor asked if I wanted That test.. he said if I Told you your child had down syndrome of a birth defect would you abort? I said no I am given what I am given! He said ok then he didn't think we should do the test because the first one almost always comes back positive. So that being said try not to worry to much, there is a chance it is nothing!! Keep your chin up

Did they do an ultrasound? There are several markers that can be seen on the ultrasound.  Clenched fist,  clubbed feet, excess fluid behind the neck, slow growth,  little movement & sometimes heart defects are all indicative of T13/T18. My daughter presented with several of the above, but amnio came back clear for Trisomy.  Good luck!! I hope all goes well!

I have never experienced this or know of anyone who has. All I wanted to say to you was keep your chin up and there is a reason why this baby has made it this far. No, I am not religious either. So no matter what happens know that and the blessing you have been given and able to love. It's okay to be scared, I wouldn't tell you not to be. Just try to stay positive for now. Baby wouldn't want you to tear yourself apart. Easier said than done, I know.

You can do it!
