UTI

Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep from getting bladder infections while TTC? I have had about 6 since I started TTC which is about 1/2 the time (minus the few months I was pregnant). I am so frustrated. My doctor said it is common because I don't go to the restroom and wash up immediately after the BD because I feel I have to lay with my legs up for awhile to let his little swimmers do their job better. I guess I should stop doing that and just hope for the best. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice?

I had never had a UTI until we started TTC. It's weird. I have been much more careful since I started getting them also, but it still hasn't worked. I have been eating healthy and drinking lots of water for years and we are always very hygienic. The only thing that seems different is that I don't go to the restroom after, which I always did before. I've been told by my my doctor and several other people to urinate after to clean everything out. Since I've been keeping my legs up after, I don't go until at least 20 min. later. You wouldn't think that would matter.
It's just weird to have gone for 40 years without a UTI, until we started TTC. It makes things so much harder! Thanks for all the advice. I may try the cranberry drinks with something else in them, I may like them better.

BTW I don't always go to the bathroom right after intercourse, and I almost never "clean up" right afterwards. At most I will use the restroom and wipe with a wet wipe real quick/  I have NEVER had a UTI or kidney infection that I can recall.

Cranberry juice or supplements, lots of water, healthy diet, good hygiene, no douching.  Ensure your partner is keeping his penis and the surrounding area clean.  You guys may or may not be into this but IF he rubs his penis (or fingers) around the anus during intimate times, do not allow him to insert either into your vagina without cleaning it well first.  Doing so introduces foreign bacterio and can cause infections.

You can also get a cranberry juice cocktail or something like apple cranberry.

Thanks guys. I may ask my doctor about my DH. I haven't heard that before. I may have to go buy some cranberry juice and hold my nose when I drink it, like my DD!

Cranberry juice is also what my Dr. used to tell me.  And lot's of water..fluids in general help according to him.  Also, your partner may need to be treated.  Often men do not have the symptoms we get, but are carriers, so if he is treated it may help eliminate the problem.  Perhaps talk to your Dr. about it...it's something I was told once, I am not certain if it is valid of not.  Good luck, they are so uncomfortable.

I wonder if cranberry pills would work? I have some of those. I never could stand cranberry juice. It might be worth it though!

I used to get UTI's on a regular basis. My doctor told me to drink cranberry juice at least once a month or eat a lot of yogurt. Never had a problem after that. The cranberry juice can be mixed with another ex crangrape etc
