When do you start your nursery?

This is my first baby and when do you start your nursery?  Did most of you wait til around 7 months or later?  Or after your baby showers to see what else you need to buy?

Im 18wks and have been told its an 85% chance its a boy.  I really havent bought much just a baby bed and pack and play.

LOL - 40smama learned everything she knows about procrastinating from us!  We waited until shortly before Abby was due to try to get things done - we did have the bassinet in our room for her to sleep in when she came home - but her crib in her room didn't even have a mattress in it when she came home - lol - I still have pictures to hang on the wall and she'll be four months old in four days - although her room wasn't done - her closet was full of clothes and she had nine pairs of shoes when she came home from the hospital - priorities!!!!!!!!  lol

I'm a planner. I started painting the room before I even got pg.  I was having fertility problems and decided I was going to have a baby no matter what, so I might as well start getting ready for him/her.  I have a couple of pics of the nursery on my profile. I bought the crib and dresser at about 13wks.  I bought the bedding about a month after that.  I had my shower during the 34th week.  The day after my shower I went to babies r us and bought EVERYTHING that was on my registry that didn't get bought for me.  Some people where mad at me for doing that, but if they really wanted to get me something, they shouldn't have waited until I was 34+wks.  In the end, it worked out really well for me.  I got a lot of gift certificates to babies r us and target. Jacob is 4months and I'm still using them.

For me, I had a lot of anxiety about not having things ready.  I found peace in getting things ready and didn't want to put it off.

Sheri,

i had a baby shower for all three of my children (ages 17, 12, and 3).  My girlfriend is ready to plan a shower for this baby now.  Personally, i think my girlfriend wants a reason to have a party.   So to answer ur question, I don't think its tacky to have another shower.  This is something ur friend wants to do for you, to show you how much you mean to her.  Let her give you the shower and enjoy urself.

With the first, I think we decorated at about 25 weeks or so.  With this one, we'll do the painting at the beginning of next month, and I'll be around 24 weeks.  I just purchased the bedding for the baby... sailboats!  The nursery should be pretty well decorated by mid to end of August, and baby is due in mid October.

The only thing that stinks about decorating now is that I can't help paint. :(  Plus, the baby won't even see the inside of that nursery probably for the first 3 months. I kept my first in a cradle next to my bed at night, and out in a pack & play in the living room during the day with me, until he was at least 12 weeks.

Here is what I want to know... a friend of mine wants to throw me a shower for this baby, but it's my second and another boy. She wants me to register and everything, and frankly, I could use quite a few little things that I don't have any more from my first, but is it tacky to have a second baby shower or is it no big deal?

Honestly, I've started looking at things already.  None of my other kids had everything I wanted them to have, but I will make sure my last baby will.  I won't know whether I'm having a boy or girl until the end of August, the beginning of Sept, but I do like the rain forest theme by fisher price.  Its unisex, has lots of colors and I think its so cute. I'm only 8 wks along.

Stupid me and I don't recommend this - I started the nursery about three weeks before Noah was born!!  I put everything off to the last minute and that didn't stop w/Noah unfortunately.  I'm trying to stay better organized since his birth - fat chance!!  It sounds like you've made a good start.  Just keep going at it slowly but surely and you'll be ready in plenty of time!

I started around 6 months and was lucky to get it done it time. We kind of remodeled. Plus, all the furniture that I liked had to be ordered and took time to get shipped so it was good that I didn't wait any longer than I did. Check out my nursery on my profile if you want. I love how it turned out. Now, if I could just toughen up and move Rhett in there and out of my room! Hee, hee.

i started around 22 weeks, picking out a theme or colors, i bought the bedding, got my husband to paint, curtains, etc.  ordered the furniture and got my husband to pick it out. that took alot of time!  i really didn't get things to decorate the room at my showers.  i got baby bath items, blankets, clothes, baby grooming items, but not really anything basic for the room,
