Which is more accurate EDD vs. Ultrasound?

I have a big concern,  I was told from my LMP 6/4/2008 that the EDD was going to be March 11, 2009. However from my last U/S the report shows that on 2/10/2009 I am 34 weeks +1...which means that the EDD is inncorect. Which is more accurate to go by the expected date of delivery or the ultrasound. My doctor ordered my first u/s when I was 6 months preg. for some reason, but my last u/s was done on the 2/10/2009. Today is 3/27/2009 and I have not yet delivered as I understand some women stay pregnant til 42 weeks, but based on the LMP I am overdue and I have no symptoms of delivery yet. What do you recommend me to do? I am deeply concerned and worried at this point and don't know what to do. I feel as if the doctors don't know what they are doing and just want me to get induced and thats that. I was told to be induced and feel uncomfortable with the thought of that. Can you please advise me what to do from here either to wait a few more days or get induced if its the last option. I greatly appreciate your help and thank you kindly.

Well I bet your LMP date is not that accurate then, in which case the ultrasound might be more accurate.   You may have actually gotten pregnant the following month or maybe you ovulated later than expected.    But even so you are over due.   And I would certainly do what Tricia is telling you to do with regards to checking amniotic fluid and a non-stress test.    So if I were you...then go by the Ultrasound for you due date.  I still think your ding **** doctor should have given you an ultrasound a lot earlier!  I'm not sure what he was thinking.

Well you are techinically at this point considered  "full term"  You say you amniotic is fine and no issues with NST.  And since your cervix is 1-2CM you could go at any time.   I would give yourself until the end of the month.    Although at this point I'd be going based on the ultrasound date.  They are usually a week or maybe two off from your LMP, for the most part they're accurate.

Thank you Tricia for you input in my situation. I have gone to get the amniotic fluid checked and NST done and everything is good. I have doubts in going ahead with induction. I went in to a hospital and they checked the baby and found that my cervix is 1-2  and not "ripe" and baby movement and heart beat is good and was told to stay at the hospital for an induction and I refused because I was afraid that it wasn't right and if I just walk it would help me go into labor naturally, but I still haven't had any signs of labor and am getting worried. What do you advise me to do?? Thank you for all of your input and I greatly appreciate it

Thank you very much for your comments. In regards of your question "When and how did you find out you were pregnant?? " that is a problem that I have I tested myself for pregnancy after my LMP maybe a month and I was not pregnant, however following that maybe a few weeks I checked again and I the results were positive. I went to the doctor to confirm the pregnancy in the middle of Aug 2008 and the results were positive. So I feel confused as to whether to go by the LMP or by the u/s. Thank you for all of your help I appreciate it as  I feel lost.

I agree with Yvette...no matter WHICH date you use, you are past due. A couple of weeks early is better than a couple of weeks late, as far as I'm concerned. I also agree with Yvette that the later in your pregnancy, the less accurate the ultrasounds are. I know for SURE when I got pregnant with my last son, and when I was seven months pregnant they told me I was six weeks further along than my due date, which wasn't possible at all. I'm surprised your MD isn't more concerned. I think I would consider a trip to the ER and request an ultrasound to determine your amniotic fluid level...you don't want it to get to a dangerously low level. Please let us know what happens!

And based on your ultrasound you should have delivered the baby three or four days ago.  I'm suprised your doctor is going by your ultrasound unless you started getting prenatal care late in the game.  I think worse case scenario your doctor will probably let you go till the end of the month, but don't let it go further than that.

If I were you I would be telling them to induce me.  You're late as per you LMP and the ultrasound date.  If you wait too long it causes the amniotic fluid to dry up.   Get on the phone with your doctor and get a better answer from him.  For some reason they're not going based on your LMP.

If you are 100% sure about your LMP and then you tested fairly near you next expected LMP and got your positive, I would be using that for the definitely EDD.

The ultrasound date may be off, esp in later trimesters, because you're baby could be bigger than normal and throwing off the dates.   I wouldn't trust the EDD from the first ultrasound if it was done when you were six months.

You doctor should also be able to tell how far along you are based on the height of your fundus...aren't they measuring that?   And from your cervix as well.....I think you are way over due if you are 100% about your LMP being on 6/4/08.  When and how did you find out you were pregnant??

What's wrong with your OB....he should be on high alert for you!
