banking cord blood/how to get process started?

Hi ladies, My DH and I have a surrogate who is now 34 wks pregnant. Hopefully I'm not looking into this too late, but I was wondering how to get the cord blood banking process started? Since I am not the one pregnant, I have not asked the OB. I may call him and ask. First of all, is it too late in the pregnancy to be looking into it now? Do I need to ask the OB, or can I just call a place like viacord and get the process started? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance!
Carisa

I did it with my baby, and decided it at 36 weeks, I called directly to the representatives here and they gave me the contract, kit and all the instructions....

Good luck!

My Dr. gave me all the info on it but I think since your surrogate is so far along that you could try getting a hold of viacord directly as well. If I remember correctly, I had to write or call for them to send me all the necessary things.   We just received a box with all the info./instructions/stuff to take to the hospital when I went into labor.  We donated ours but the early process is probably similar.
good luck,
Kara

Hello, at my first prenatal visit the nurse talked to me about cord banking.  So, I think your OB's office is the first place to start!  Good luck!

Hey there Carisa!!  I don't know much about this personally, but if you go to the top of any page on medhelp, you will see the search medhelp box.  Type in blood cord banking (I tried it) and there were a bunch of posts related to it.  I didn't look through all of them, but I bet there is a member there that could point you in the right direction.  Good luck my friend!!!  Amanda
