caffine use

I am 36weeks + 1. I had cut back my caffine by drinking only one cup of coffee a day or less. Then I slowly started drinking a cup a day, now it's creeping up to 2 cups a day. The only research I can find on caffine is that it can lead to low birth weight if used in excess (which I would take to mean a whole lot, like a pot a day). What's everyone's opinion? Should I cut back before the baby us born? Is the baby going to have caffine withdrawal if I dont? Does anyone know any other side effects of drinking coffee?

I think it's fine too.  The recommendation is no more then 2 cups a day.  I switched to half and half and drank 2 cups throughout.  We still need that "get up and go".

I think you'll be OK! 5 cups would be an excess but 2 cups sounds OK to me.

For my pregnancy I started with no coffee... then I was too tired and drank 1 cup/day + a lot of chocolate lol!

I've never been a coffee drinker, but I LOVE caffeinated diet soda. I cut that out more because of the chemical stuff than the caffeine. I've been told the same--keep it to 300 mg of less. I do eat some chocolate though, and I know that has caffeine...

I don't think 2 cups a day are going to cause any problems.  If you would feel better, you could always try the half-caf.  I cut down to 1 cup a day but every once in a while i sneak in another afternoon cup.  I believe 300mg is the recommended top amount of caffeine, and if you are only having 2 cups and not drinking caffeinated sodas or eating a lot of chocolate or other foods with caffeine you should be within that limit.  Just regular coffee though, no capuccinos or espressos...
