can viral infection hurt the baby

I've had a horrible viral infection for a week now.  It is slowly getting better.  I had fever for about five days.  Its like a very very bad cold. I saw the baby on the ultrasound on Friday with a heartbeat at 10 weeks.  But it wasn't moving. Can the viral infection hurt the baby. Besides my allergy meds the only thing I took was tylenol.

Yes, she was fine :) She will be 21 in July...was born a few days post term and weighed 6# 11ozs. The only complication we had was meconium staining at birth but that was more likely due to the fact that she was post term (my son had it too). Oh, she also had pyloric stenosis (the muscle between her stomach and small intestine clamped down and would not allow food to pass through) and had to have surgery when she was a few months old but I don't think that was related to the pneumonia. The cause of  pyloric stenosis isn't known but genetics is a big factor (I blame her bio dad lol). The antibiotic erythromycin has some association but I didn't take that as far as I know

I had respiratory problems throughout that pregnancy (and it didn't help that I smoked...I cut down to less than 10 cigarettes a day but at that time, the patch/gum were prescription only and they refused to give me a prescription...not sure how smoking could be worse than a patch!)

Honestly, I'm amazed that she was okay. They did a nuclear scan (injected I.V. isotopes) on me when I was about 11 weeks pregnant (I was 9 1/2 weeks on Dec 10, the scan was Dec 18 I think) they had me on corticsteroids and theophylline thoughout the pregnancy.

As i said she is 21 now and working to become a teacher. Very smart, healthy and beautiful.

Was your baby okay even with the pneumonia?

I am pretty concerned about the fever. You might want to see your doctor again just in case it is more than a virus and keep taking the Tylenol to keep the fever down...fevers aren't good for the baby :(

With my daughter, born July 1990,  I got a really bad cold early in the pregnancy and it didn't seem to go away. I had a chest xray in late Nov/early Dec 89 and it was clear but by Dec 15 I was hospitalized with pneumonia. My immune system kind of crashed in the early part of my pregnancy.
