Im sorry to hear that....my son failed the afp test years ago and I was around 22 wks or so. The lady called me to give the news. She said it was either a spinal problem, open spine or that the baby didnt have a brain . I was devastated.....couldn't stop crying just the thought of having a baby without a brain and delivering only for him to die if that was the case. Had to wait a long week to get a amio and 4d ultrasound. He had gastroschisis all his intestines were outside his stomach. It was devastating!! At 30 weeks he stopped moving, had to get an emergency csection and I went home without a baby : ( he stayed 4months in the nicu had 4 surgeries and blood transfusion. All while I was in the middle of a divorce still loving his father. God gives us the hardest times in life but we have to trust there is a better picture for us. I pray for you and your baby, be strong!!
If this information is from the quad blood test it is not accurate. unless you get a diagostic test like an amneocentis it is not accurate. my quad test came back elevated for down syndrome. these elevations occur more as you get older but doesn't mean anything is wrong. there are new non invasive test called harmony and mat21 that are more accurate. they would be able to tell if there was a genetic disorder. i had the harmony done and everything was fine. ask you Dr about these tests to ease your mind. Good luck keep us updated.
If they did the initial test, but dont know what, there is still hope. Keep us posted and I'm sure we'll all keep you and your baby in our prayers.
Is this a definite diagnosis or just the test that says there is an increased chance?
