See a lactation consultant, insurance covers at least 3 visits, google breastfeeding latch techniques (Dr jack Newman has good latch videos). La Leche league can offer advice. It's best to get help sooner rather than later.
I feel like the cause of it is bc of incorrect latch.. My other nipple is sore when he latches on but its not bleeding or cracked like the other one. I haven't given up yet! Trying to work on his latch though (:
Mustela has an amazing lotion for your nipples, it's a bit expensive but totally worth it. It's safe for the baby so you don't have to wipe it off. You'll feel relieved right away. I'm already stocking up for my twins.
Try hand expressing just enough for the milk to drip out before feeding it relieves the pressure and stops it hurting when baby latches on. Ibe been feeding for 9 weeks now and theres no pain at all. It will get better you've gone through the roughest part now. And to the women wanting to know what the pain feels like the best way I can describe it is a toe curling pain that last a few seconds when baby latches on.
If you ever need more support/advice you can also post in the breastfeeding community. Lots of current experienced breastfeeding mom's there as well; including myself.
These are awesome tips, thanks ladies!
If you're bleeding, then the most likely cause is an incorrect latch. Baby might be shallow, or maybe he starts shallow then drags your nipple back. Check lower lip, is it curled in? If yes then apply gentle downward pressure to baby's chin to bring lip out ensuring a deeper latch. Do you hear clicking? It could possibly be a tongue tie. I would make an appointment with a lactation consultant, because bleeding or cracked nipples can lead to infection.
Try having him take more of your breast in his mouth.
If it hurts, open his jaw and shove more boob in it. Should be sucking outside the areola or more if possible.
Shouldn't hurt so much.. (2 successful BF babies to 10 months)
U might try some different positions like for me being a DD the football hold helped alot of soreness a lill blood doesn't hurt lo so dont worry bout that they have sheilds to put on while u feed but I wouldnt use em too much or pump and bottle feed as a last resort if u just cant stand it anymore and the gel cooing packs helped me too in addition to the lanolin. Try squeezing gently ur nipples to get the millk started and ur nips lubricated before u put baby on and a lil breastmilk after feeding to help heal u and feed more often if ur lo is an aggressive feeder like my son was sometimes. Hope anything from this helps u. If ur determined to do it u can! I had alot of troubles too and mastitis 3xs but I stuck it out and after problems the first 3 months the rest of the yr was a breeze I loved it and ill go thru it all again!
This happened to me with my third child I used to walk around while I started to breastfeed him and then sit once the pain subsided then repeat when I switched sides. I healed a lot
You just have to get your entire areola in your baby's mouth with your nipple practically down their throat. That way they're sucking on your areola and NOT your nipple.
Try not to tense up when baby first latches. I know it hurts like crazy but try try to relax. It makes it so much easier, just drop your shoulders and breathe deep. When you're done nursing, hand express a little more milk and spread it over your nipples and areolae and let it air dry. Better than lanolin, better than any nipple cream on the market.
It is so hard at first. But it does get better. Promise! You'll get there!
If you need a break you can always pump and give him a bottle of breast milk instead.
They have gel pads called soothies that worked really well for my when I breastfed my first wish I had had them from the beginning. I put them in the fridge and put them on after every feeding it really helped relieve the pain in the first few weeks they were the best. Also try some lanolin if you haven't already. I know it hurts but it does get much better trust me I breastfed my first for 19 months
They don't hurt at first but like after 2 days it was starting to hurt and it gets worse everyday . He's latched on perfectly and eats perfectly so I'm not doing anything wrong its just part of it . Everyone says day 14 is the magical number when it completely stops . It ***** right now but I don't want to give him formula . just gotta push thru it ! & it really only hurts for about 30 seconds when they first latch on & then its not so bad
They callus? And bleed? Oh god I'm due in 8 days. Hearing this makes me not want to but I'm still gonna give it a shot! Can you explain more what it's like??
