Yes that very normal. Go for walks and when you're hungry drink water. I was the same way. Right before I got pregnant this is what I did to lose 35lbs in 2 months. No gym, no real diet, just cut out all processed food and sugar. I made everything from scratch and ate lots of rice. It has lower carbs than potatoes so you're off to a good start. If you can cut out pasta, that helps too. Chicken and turkey is good too.

The best way is to follow a low carb diet. Right now, even though you are only eating fruits and rice and chapati, your diet is mainly sugars and carbs. I know how important rice is for an Asian diet. But honestly... to control weight gain you have to reduce it to very little or none at all. It's only 9 months. Try to reduce your rice/chapati to once a weeks at the most.

In order to control my own weight, I ate cooked vegetables, lean meats, and fish.  How your food is prepared is very important too. Don't stew your vegetables in rich or oily sauces. Don't add starchy vegetables like potatoes or lentils.  Stick with leafy greens that you blanche or saute with a bit of little oil. I grilled the meats. And I baked the fish. Fruit was a treat. I let myself have 1 to 2 servings a day but stayed away from the sugary fruits like banana, mango, melons. I ate various berries, apples, pears, kiwi, and some citrus.

Weight gain is hard to control when you are pregnant. Especially is you have a ravenous appetite, but it can be done. I also timed when I ate certain things.  If I wanted to eat anything with sugars and carbs, I made sure to eat them before noon.  Preferably in the morning so they have time to get burned off. I didn't eat carbs or sugar at lunch or dinner.

If you really want to do this, you can't make excuses about how important rice i to you.  Follow a low carb diet. Drink only water. Exercise. You should see results vet quickly.

Cut out anything you're drinking that isn't water. That'll help a lot. You should amp up your vegetable intake and cut down on the fruit a little. Fruit has a lot of natural sugar and you really only need one serving a day and 2 or 3 servings of veggies. While you may not want to gain anymore, you probably will just because we tend to retain water later in pregnancy and your baby will still grow. You should be drinking about 100 to 130 oz of water daily. Taking in adequate sources of protein is also very important. Carbs not so much. Fish will give you lots of protein without much fat and cholesterol. It also has dha and omega 3s, very important during pregnancy. Hth, if you any more questions let me know.
