Hello, I am starting to get worried about being pregnant because of the funny little symptoms I've been getting. I was hoping someone out there might be able to shed some light on my concerns. I am 43 and I have a 3 year old son, my pregnancy with him was very incredible. From the beginning, no symptoms at all! no cravings, no nausea, no gas, no pains, all blood and urine tests came back positive. My periods are always religiously on time. I had my period up until I was 3 months along. My son was full term and everything was normal. Now this last January I was 7 days late which NEVER happens unless I am pregnant. I am usually on a 28 day menstrual cycle. After the 7day I took a home urine test and it came back negative. The next day I got what I thought was my cycle. It was a normal flow. I almost thought it might have been an early miscarriage so I waited till next month and I had my cycle again on time as usual. Had a blood test done at the Drs and also negative. I've been reading online that you can still be pregnant and register negative even after 7 months pregnant. My biggest worry is because I've been feeling fluttering quite a bit and no it is not gas. There is a considerable difference between the two. Especially for the last month or so and I just wonder what are the odds of being pregnant. OMG is it possible that I could be pregnant? No weight gain, although I am about 40 lbs over weight for my height still trying to get rid of the baby weight from my son. All these TV shows on the TLC channel about women delivering babies and not knowing that they were pregnant has me petrified with fear. Don't get me wrong I'd love to have one more but I want to be sure that I'm taking the right vitamins and not taking the wrong aspirin for headaches with acetomet. ect. I don't drink or smoke so I'm not worried in that regard. I am just concerned about this inexplicable fluttering, emotional, moodiness all the time, tiredness, & forgetfulness. Is it just all in my head? I would hate to find out a few months down the line when I'm rushed to the ER to find out that I'm having a baby that did not have any prenatal care. That's just scary.
I am 42 and I know at this age that cycles can start changing....I, too was a regular 28-day kind of gal, but my cycle was screwed up in May because of a functional cyst. These type of cysts can either cause breakthrough bleeding or delay a period. I'm just wondering if that is a possibility for you.
My sister had irregular periods over a year ago..and she found out it was because of a vitamin B deficiency and had to get daily injections for a number of weeks.
So it could be anything. But it your blood test came back negative, then you're not pregnant.
Perhaps it's worth it to go back to your doctor and ask for more tests.
I am 40 and in December my cycles changed a bit as well. They went from 28 days (like clockwork) to 25 days. One of those things that can start to happen in our 40s.
I would say you are not pregnant. It's true that hpt's can give false negatives, primarily because of women testing too early, or not using them correctly (easy to do). But if you had blood drawn and it was negative, unless someone at the lab made an error, you are not pregnant.
I agree with Miranda, you may want your Dr. to explore other possibilities.
Hi! adgal and Miranda9
Thanks for your post. You want to hear something weird? I was reading about other women with similar experiences and one mentioned that she had all sorts of pregnancy tests done urine, blood ect. and still they were negative and here she was 7 months preg. now she didn't mention whether or not she had her normal period or not . Even so, some women had stated that they had their cycle just about till the end of their pregnancy. One said it's because they had placenta previa. At any rate my period is very much on time as it always is that's why I can tell that it is a period and not just random spotting or bleeding, otherwise why would I bleed just when my cycle is due exactly on the day? so it has to be a menstrual cycle. I'm still bothered by those fluttering feelings. Honestly, if I were pregnant I would be about 25-26 weeks along that is about the time you start feeling things isn't it? At this point I don't care how crazy my OBGYN thinks I am, I will just have to schedule an appointment with her anyway. I'm kinda overdue for a pap anyhow. I've been putting it off but I may as well just get it over with already!
