This was my first pregnancy and it ended in a miscarriage on New Years day. I was about to be 9 weeks. They gave me a shot of Cytotec in the ER and sent me on my way to let nature run its course. It didnt....at least not yet. Has anyone ever had this and how long does it take? Im waiting and I just want this over with...........

Hello,
I'm so sorry to learn of your miscarriage.  It is a difficult, numbing experience that you're going through right now.

I've been there.  When I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum last year, my Dr. prescribed me misoprostol to take vaginally, to bring on my miscarriage. I never ended up taking it.  I decided to miscarry naturally.  That meant waiting for close to two weeks.  It was a terrible time.

The Cytotec - or misoprostol - should have started your cramping fairly quickly, usually within 8 hours.

I agree with the other posters, check in with your Dr. if nothing has happened in a day.  I am a little confused, however; I'm wondering why they gave the Cytotec to you if you already started to miscarry?

I'm sorry this was your New Years.  I think women are so strong to have to go through this.

I'm sending you my healing thoughts and hope that the end of this year is much better than the beginning!

I am so sorry for what yoo are going through and I can relate to the feeling of "wanting to get over with it". I had a miscarriage at 18 weeks (PPROM) I wound up in the ER in where  I was given Cytotec vaginally and orally. Within two hours I went into labor ... It is supposed to work quite quickly so I suggest to go back to the doctor, the dose might not have been strong enough .. as when I was in the hospital the doctors informed me that the could be a possibilty.. My prayers are with you

First off I am so sorry for your loss.  I had something similar happen my first miscarriage.  I was given cytotec (at least thats what I think it was) and it was taken vaginally the first dose, then orally.  It didn't work for me for a few days, although they said it was supposed to be quite quick.  In the end I wound up just having a D&C. Please follow up with your Dr. on monday if things haven't started.  Are you bleeding at all?  If you are, and the bleeding gets heavier then a pad an hour, go to the emergency room.  Cycotec works well for many, but my experience was not great with it.  I'm not trying to frighten you, but just things to watch for.  Take care and I hope you are doing ok.
