Yep. Take the Advil and I would suggest asking for some valium to take an hour before. It took the edge off my nerves. I get terrified at the doc/hospital with procedures of the unknown and it helped. I will say the worse part for me was that catheter insertion. Plus they had to use that stupid clamp to pull it straight. But the dye part didn't hurt and I got lucky. No blockage.

It's not horrible and try to focus on it's a one time test that is literally less than 5 min once everything is in order.

Much luck.

Oh and on the infertility forum, you'll have almost every woman there tell you of their experiences. Maybe more insight would help.

I had the HSG as well.  It wasn't too painful, but I do advise taking Advil, like anne0922 recommened.  It helped me to relax.  I also drove myself and managed ok but I did take Advil an hour before and then I took one as soon as I got into my car.

Everyone reacts differently to this procedure.  I felt some pain when the dye was injected but it was so brief (thank goodness).  Just wanted to be honest, so you could be prepared.  But my friend did it and she felt nothing, I hope that is your case.

It will feel weird when its over, at least it did for me, when the dye comes back out onto the table. I  was provided a space to clean up and the procedure only took a few minutes.

Sometimes the test will show blocked tubes but its not alway a definate answer.  Make sure you ask your doctor about false positives.  I had a friend go through this and it showed her that her tubes were blocked.  Well, she when through a laparoscopy only to find out her tubes weren't blocked!  Mine showed no blockage.  I hope the same for you!

The HSG is test is to check to see that your tubes aren't blocked.  They just shoot dye up there and make sure it comes out the ends of your tubes.  I had mine done and it turned out o.k.  Just be sure to take Advil or something similar to it a few hours BEFORE your procedure.  I forgot and had some cramping that was uncomfortable afterwards.  You may want a driver too.  i was able to drive home myself, but since I forgot the Advil it was a hard drive home.

I think the pain depends on the individual.  I was fine through the procedure and didn't feel much at all.  I also found out that I have a tilted uterus too.  Pretty intersting stuff.  They show you the dye going through the tubes and everything.  Good luck...
