hcg questions more than doubling

Hello.  I was wondering if anyone has experienced their hcg levels increase significantly faster than doubling every 48 hours.  My hcg on Thursday 12/2nd was 460 and then when i was retested on Monday 12/6th my hcg was at 3570.  Could this be a problem or possibly twins?

Hey there, hunny, your HCG levels will most likely be different to anyone elses because they fluxuate alot from woman to woman. The doctors say that they like to see HCG levels AT LEAST doubling, which means as long as they double they are happy, if they more than double then thaat's generally ok, It could be a sign of twins, but doctors ahven't really found any link between Higher rising HCG levels and twins than in any singleton pregnancy, so in other words it could be twins, but it also could just be that you have fabby HCG levels. There are a good few articles on HCG levels in stages of pregnancy to found on google, type in how far along you are and what your HCG levels should be and have a poke around in the pages that come up, I think you'll find the margin of difference surprising, I know I did. Doubling time with HCG levels really does not conform to the standard "every 48 hours".  It is very common for it to double even faster then that for many of us in the early stages, then tends to slow down significantly as the numbers get higher.

Just to give you an example...with my son my no's doubled in 24 hours initially.  The then slowed to every 80 or so hours.  This of course sent me into a tailspin, convinced I had miscarried.  But, it was normal and all was well. He was also a singleton.  

They don't even attempt to say twins based on HCG levels anymore.  All HCG levels are is a tool in helping to determine viability in early stages.  It certainly doesn't mean you are not having twins, it's just not a good way to decide.  They tend to leave that for ultasound.  Good luck to you!!
