I have twingy type pains for 3-5 days before ovulation in the general ovary area and sometimes a very sharp pain during ovulation plus a dull ache over the entire abdomen area for a few hours. The sharp pain is almost on my hip bone and feels like a needle. Not every month is the same though. My first few periods after having a baby were the most painful ovulations and now I'm again having painful ones after the miscarriage.
I've found temperatures the best way to track ovulation and once I did that I could kind of recognise the pains. We women get all sorts of aches and twinges in that area (well I do) and sometimes it's gas and sometimes it's referred back pain.
Wishing you good luck.
Yes you should have an ultrasound to make sure this pain is nothing serious - if the pain is too early in your cycle to be ovulation. Most often it will be small cysts that are nothing to worry about. But sometimes it can be worse: I had a giant ovarian cyst several years ago that had to be removed in emergency. I had pain with it at the end before it was discovered, but nothing too too bad. It cost me my left ovary, I still have it but it does not really work anymore and produce only small follicles. Listen to your body!
ooops forgot to mention that the reason I KNOW I O'd on CD 10 the day of my+ OPK & later my O pain is cuz then next morning on CD11 @ 10:00 AM I had an US & my RE said I had barely O'd
For me when I have my O pain (it's a very distinct pain......stabbing like) I THINK I have figured out that this is right before/during ovulation, for ME. Dr's do not agree, they say for some it's when the ovary is being stretched right before O, some say it's during, & some say it's after cuz when the egg bursts out of the follie it sometimes leaks out fluid & irritates things inside;)
When I get my O pain it will last anywhere from 2-10 hours, & it's fairly constant. If you get CM that gets really stretchy, & O pain you can pretty easily get your timing right;)
This cycle was natural for me, & I REALLY wanted to see what a non medicated follie looked like for me right before O. I was too late, & this is how I FINALLY figured out what is going on when I get my O pains.
I had TONS of stretchy CM last Sat. & Sun. less on Monday which was CD10 , I THOUGHT I SHOULD have O'd on Wed. CD12 but thought hmmmmmm, I fely literally a pinch in my right ovary the night before for a minute, less CM today so I tested w/an OPK & git a + @ 11:00 AM, wasn't thee the day before @ 4:30 then around 7:00 PM that night started getting pretty bad O pains, that woke me up in the night! They were as bad as the ones I had when I did Gonal-F!
Normally they only last a few hours, but this was more for some reason.
But adgal is right, sometimes it can be something else. Thats why when your TTY or avoiding pg it's a good idea to learn your own bodies signs;)
I've had a large cyst, & that pain is nothing like my O pain.......oh boy, nothing. Labor is better than an inflamed ovarian cyst pain LOL
Best of luck hun;)
Not necessarily. Some women will experience pain when they ovulate. I did a bit, however it was not something I would base it on. We often get small cysts that can also cause a bit of pain. Or just the normal little aches and pains in that general area that come with being a women. Good luck.
