peri or regular menopause

I am 52 and have  missed three periods.  I went into my gynecologist to discuss the possibility of pregnancy since my husband and I did have an unfortunate condom breakage.  She laughed at me and told me there was no possible way.  That I was too old and have old eggs.  She and I have had a working relationship for 33 years and I was so blindsided by this information that I cried most of the way home.
I spoke to my family doc and he laughed.  He couldn't believe she had been so cruel and told me that he would indeed order both a pregnancy test and a FSH/LH test.  Pregnancy test is negative, FSH is 25.7 and LH is 38.1.  I have been looking online for information to tell me more about perimenopause and menopause but am not finding the results I need.  Any information on this would be appreciated.  Just trying to get to the next phase of life with some dignity.

As Lisa mentioned...your OB/GYN definitely needs some bedside manners.  Please check out this website below on Perimenopause and Menopause, I hope you find it helpful.

Hi,
Your OBGYN needs some bedside manners.
I am almost 45 and my OBGYN told me its never to late to get pregnant if you are getting periods on and off. She had a friend in her 50's that got pregnant because of broken condom.  It was not a viable pregnancy, but it can happen and will probably result in a heartbreaking miscarriage.
There are two very good books about peri and regular menopause.
1) Is it hot in here or is it just me - recommended by my OBGYN
2) The wisdom of menopause  - By Christine Northup ( a little out there, but good)
I respect my obgyn.  She is  a Harvard Grad and practices in NYC and is herself in her 50's and perimenopausel.
Good luck and let me know how your doing.
Lisa
