do you have to have twins in your family history to get twins

Absolutely not. Although it does run in families, you do not have to have twins in your family at all and you could still have twins...especially fraternal twins.

Generally, yes, but the chances also increase for older mothers.  I'm a fraternal twin, my cousin, through my mom's side, has fraternal twin boys.  My dad had fraternal siblings (boy and girl). I used to hope I'd have twins!

I don't think so...my Father is an identical twin, and my husband is a fraternal twin.  There are no twins by any siblings on either side.  I was hoping it would have been me though : ) !!!!!!

I agree with Amanda...although nowadays, it seem like the main reason for having twins is due to fertility meds, not necessarily family history.

Your more likely to have twins if it runs in your family, but it's not necessary.  My cousin had twins last October and we have no family history of them.  They are fraternal.  Good luck.
