rapid fetal movement with pain

I am brand new to your "forum".  I've never joined one before.  I am 41 and pregnant for my 6th time with my 2nd baby.  I am 30+ weeks along, and doing well except for....   I am having excruciating pains under my lower right rib cage.  At 22 weeks, they thought it could be gall bladder pain, I had an extensive abdominal ultrasound and they found no problems with any of my organs.  Then they dismissed it to be baby's feet hooked up under my ribs.  The pain seems to be getting worse.  The baby is moving frequently and rapidly.  I am wondering if my ribs are bruised? and if its normal to have pain only on one side.  Its never been on my left side.  The stretching of my skin right in that area is also very painful, even to the touch.   Anyone else having this pain?  Any suggestions? I've tried ice cubes (recommended to me by a midwife) and I've tried microwave heating rice packs (natural heating pads, not electric).

Hi Deb- Also, welcome to the forum! I'm not sure of how long ago this all started with you, but I too have these pains. Mine are called abdominal adhesions pain. I had a tubal reversal in March and the pain started in April. I went to the doctor about this several times, they did exams, ultrasounds... found nothing! They were lost as to what this was. I was pregnant in April, lost the baby at the end of May. The pain was there when I pushed on my left side but only when I pushed there. So then I got pregnant again in August and am currently pregnant and the pain started coming and going again on it's own. Oh lordy.. we were lost once again. They did more ultrasounds and more tests, couldn't find anything. Then my OBGYN kind of figured out that it was abdominal adhesions that was pulling when my uterus was stretching. You can google it but it is basically where you have had surgery *any kind* tubal reversal, d & c, abortion, any kind of surgery and the site doesn't heal properly and then adhere to another part of your abdomen. It's like little cords wrap around something else in there other then what they are supposed to and OH my does it ever HURT!! I am only 19 w 5 days and I dread having to put up with this for the remainder of my pregnancy. The doctor explained to me that the only way they can deal with it is to do surgery and repair it, and it will have to wait until after I have the baby. Ugh!!!

Anyways, I'm not sure if this even pertains to you but I thought I would throw that suggestion in there as to what it could be. I hope you figure it out soon so the doctors know what steps to take after you have the baby.

Good Luck!

I'm not sure if this is similar to what you are experiencing, however my first baby loved to jam her feet up under my right ribs and would stretch and kick, hard. I would be in such pain it would bring me to tears. People would ask if I was okay and I could only say "No". Because she was my first and she was 21 inches tall and I'm not tall, maybe there wasn't much room for her in there. After she was born and would stretch and kick as a newborn, I could visually see what she was doing inside the uterus that probably caused all the pain. Closer to her due date, when she dropped down more, it helped greatly. Keep your ob/gyn informed. I hope they can find the cause and help you. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.  You will find a lot of women here who care and share their experiences with one another.  I am also 41 and carrying my second child (after 17 years), I am 25 weeks.

I have not experienced what you are explaining (yet), but it doesn't sound normal to me.  Did the pain start when the baby starting kicking and moving? Or did you have it before?  The only things I can think of if your liver is on the right side, and everything is shifted so much maybe it is cramped and causing you to be sore. Does it feel like muscle pain?  Like when you have a leg cramp and the next day you are sore?  I guess it could be brusing, or stretching muscles.  I think if it continues I would seek another opinion, maybe from your gp. The plus side is you are feeling your baby move alot, and that is always reassuring :) I hope someone else can help you more, the weekends are little slow here, so keep checking in to see.  I hope you stay.
