sigh* just got back from ER

ok so here is the scoop, hoping someone can give me some insight, I woke up at 1130 PM with severe and I mean severe pain right underneath my left breast near the rib cage, thought wow massive gas pains, I got up, went to the BR got a drink, and burped a few times, the pain intensified, to make a long story short this went on for about  2 hours, I was to the point of sweating profusely, left arm felt weak, and the pain was radiating to the back, now I am a nurse, and my first thought was oh my damn, cardiac trouble , woke DH DD and we went to er, MD seems to think i had a gall bladder attack, interesting thought as I never considered that, but my gall bladder is on the right and these pains were on the left, anyway, the dumb a$$ wanted to give me morphine for the pain, um hello I am pregnant with twins!!! he said morphine is ok in pregancy I was like no thanks, anyway I am home now, he gave me this stuff called carafate which coats the stomache, and sent me home with 6 lortab, to take if I have pain, which I just flushed down the toilet, I just dont feel narcotics like that are safe in pregnancy,. ANYWAY!!! has anyone had the kind of pain I described, and what did it turn out to be, I would say gas pains, but the pain was so severe I could not tolerate it, thanks for anyones help.

hmmm seems like all they tried to do was mask the pain.  I have no idea what it could have been, but I'm glad everything has turned out okay and there was no problem with the babies.

Take care, hannah

First I hope all is well and that you're feeling better, next I'm GLAD you didn't accept the medication.  I'm STILL convinced that's what caused me to miscarry at 17 weeks in June.  I have fibroids, and they were causing me so much pain, and the docs seemed to think that morphine was OK for me, and as a result they kept me doped up on it quite often (I spent a lot of time in the ER and being admitting starting at 6 weeks on up until I miscarried at 17 weeks) and now I'm 12 weeks pregnant, STILL with the fibroid, and no issues.  I know I should let it go, but I can't help but feel that the meds is what caused it, so all I can say is THANK GOD you were smart enough NOT to take them

I had a similar attack while not at home on business.  Thought those same things, almost went to the ER.  It was a severe gas attack with some major esophagial irritation.  I couldn't eat much for the next few days until it settled down.  I wasn't pregnant at the time, but that sounds like a good description of what I went through.

Good not to take the narcs, they gave me morphine after my mastectomy against my wishes...basically it was take the morphine or you get nothing....that from a ****** breast surgeon.  Needless to say, he and I parted company.  By the way, I vomitted not an hour after the administration, can you say...didn't need that much pain med?  Same thing with the Lortab the next morning.  I TOLD them not to give me that much medicine.  He got an earful the next afternoon when he finally showed up.  Thankfully baby was good...OB doc called in an ultrasound for me (now that's a nice doc!).

Anyway, hunt up all the gas and acid reflux stuff you can take while pregnant.  It may take a combo of things to reduce the gas/pain you are experiencing.  I had the whole pharmacy, but then again I could take the whole pharmacy.  Mom's favorite is Gaviscon (I think I had to take a dose of that while pregnant). Ewe it's gross but effective.

It may take a couple of rounds to get everything back to normal, so if you've a chart that lists the things that are safe, then start with what looks to be the top of the line.  You also might have to combine a few things to get the relief you need.

Good luck to ya, I know it hurts.

did he not check your heart?... that would be my first thought. wow.. good luck.. Hope all goes well.. there is a gerds reflux that will sometimes put so much pain on your chest. fills like a heart attack. I would look more into that. but darn... He should of first check to see it wasnt a heart atack. and then... being pregnant... more then likeley it was gerds reflux. use pillows to put you in an upright position at night, and watch the time you eat your supper. I would say to eat befor...5.00pm and see if that helps.

yea... I dont like medication while pregnant either. darn drs want to just treat symptons and not look more into what the facts are..
Hope all is fine now.?
