when can I expect my first period?

Hi everyone,

I had my baby 10/31 by C-section and was wondering when I can expect my first period. I am also  breastfeeding. Does that make a difference?

Thanks,
D:-

Hi MM,
I exclusively breastfed both my sons for a year each and didn't get any periods until after they were weaned.

Everyone's right, D - breastfeeding usually delays a period although I just bottle fed and I didn't get my period until 6 months later so there's really no way of knowing when it'll all start up again.  I hope everything's going well - jen

Congratulations!   I also got my period about a month after I stopped breastfeeding/pumping.  I do have friends that got thiers a few months after giving birth and they were nursing exclusively.  I think that is not quite as common though.  Like many things, it varies in each woman.
Good luck.

Hello and congratulations on the birth of your baby!  As long as you are breastfeeding it is highly unlikely you will get your period.  The sucking process your baby does when breastfeeding supresses your ability to ovulate.  Once you stop nursing, your period usually comes back within 1 or 2 months.  I breastfed for 6 mos, the next month I got my period.  Best Wishes!  Pam
