worried sick!

Please no bashing or judgments.... I'm 37 weeks along, I've taken pain pills my whole pregnancy (dr prescribed) but i had a friend who gave me a handful of methadone to take for pain i was having... Said it was safe, trusted her, was hurting so bad that i was taking them sometimes, only half at a time, randomly throughout my pregnancy. I was told by a friend recently that the hospital drug tests both mom and baby at birth and that it can go back to earlier in pregnancy. I'm terrified of methadone showing up and losing my baby over it. I'm not a drug addict, i don't use them on a daily basis, just here and there when i felt i needed them. What's going to happen? I'm so scared to go into labor now and have them check us and take my baby... Help!

My sister was taking it with out a perscription while she was pregnant. Her baby was born with a lot of health problems and even had to have surgery on his intestines when he was 3 weeks old. Children and family services was called cause they found it in his system. They didnt take him from her but they did make her take drug abuse classes. He is now all most 2years old and is still having to go thru alot and has another surgery next week to take out part of his intestines cause it keeps getting block and he cant poo.

I Thought Methadone Is What They Give You To Get OfF Heavy Drugs I Didn't Know They Were For Pain... I Would Just Be Honest With Your Doctor..

A lot if babies born with mother using methadone have to be weened off after birth, they have bad withdrawls that can be harmful.  Here in my town they have to send them to a big hospital with a nicu.   You really need to let your doc know..

I know someone who has taken pain pills their whole pregnancy and baby came out fine. They were also prescribed. I would try to ease up on them being that pills don't stay in ur system that long.

Your concerns should be about Birth Defects. Ibprophen causes major birth defects if taken later in the pregnancy. And that drug is way more intense. Just be cautious about what the side effects are. I've read that smoking causes Cleft palate.

Not sure if the baby can be taken from you for that drug. But the most important thing is the risks your baby will have at birth so better make your gynae or md aware of the use of the drug. It can cause jaundice, thromocytosis along others in new born babies. Not judging you or anything but next time please ask your gp before taking meds from a friend during pregnancy. Remember every drug you take, the baby takes it too.
