Xanax is generally not recommended during pregnancy, you should definitively speak about it with your doctor.
I used to take it here and there (0,5), for anxiety and mostly for sleep (it helped me going back to sleep in the middle of the night). As soon as I discovered I was pregnant (at 17 DPO) I never took it again, my baby is 6 months old and as I am breastfeeding him I still have not taken a single Xanax.
I did have a little bit of anxiety at times during my pregnancy, nothing too bad in my case. Your condition may be more severe, so do speak about that to your doctor!
I just think it is very important to reiterate here...please do not ever attempt to wean yourself or quit a drug cold turkey during pregnancy. The risk to the fetus (and to yo9u) is far to high). This must be done under the supervision of a Dr. only. Please talk to them prior to quitting.
This may be a little late in coming, but I thought I would chime in. I'm 35 and ttc my third child. I take pristiq 100 mg each day for anxiety and panic attacks. I did a lot of research on the medications I take before having my IUD removed because I want everything to go well and the baby to be as healthy as possible. Both my OB and my mental health doctor told me that the risks of stopping the medication were greater than continuing it. And the risks of continuing it were minimal. Maternal depression and anxiety are more dangerous to the baby than the medication I take. Having said that, I don't know anything about Xanax, but I would bet there are many other drugs you could try. My doctor would not prescribe me xanax as a regular medication even before I told him I was ttc because it is quite addictive and he tries to use it sparingly. Hope you figured it all out by now! :)
Xanax is not safe during pregnancy.. I also have anxiety issues and I am trying to conceive, and I have wiened myself off of it. It was rough for a couple of weeks but I am sleeping great now. XANAX is not safe, and hopefully your fetus is healthy. I know it isnt smart to quit Xanax cold turkey but its also not smart to get PG when youre taking Category C meds like Xanax. You need to try and stop it at once and see your doctor.
Medication while pregnant is all about risk vs. benefit. The best thing to do is work with your Dr. He/she knows your history best. There may be other options besides Xanax, or you may decide staying on it is in your best interest. It is never a good idea to quit a drug like this cold turkey while pregnant...please work with your Dr. Good luck!
