Am 3 months and my sister is a dental assistant she said its fine to.get xrays if you have the lead jacket..and they have stuff they use on pregnant women during a root canal or cavity that's safe to use.. just get a different dentist opinion
Ya thats too bad that they didnt? My dentist cleaned out the area, and got rid of what she could to keep it as clean as possible without irritating it, put some cleaning stuff in it and the medicated temporary... i had 3 months or so left at that time... it was whatever the maximum reccomended time is for the temporary to last(i think it was 3 months?)... but at least your getting the infection under control and it wont be long till you can go back and get it finished... just be extra careful not to eat anything that may break it or damage it more i guess... take care and congrats on your pregnancy!!
They did an xray of the tooth but put a double led vest on me covering my belly. He said the original filling fell out and there was a piece remaing and the infection is above that.... they prescribed me amoxicillan. They said no root canals or extractions until after my pregnancy. I really thought he would atleast put a emporary filling
It would completely depend on what type of filling you need and what the damage is... if its just a regular filling then thats fine... as far as root canal goes some dentists wont do a root canal specifically because you need to take xrays to see how much farther down they have to go to remove the root with out going all the way through so they have to take some out, take an xray, take some more out...ect if they feel you would benefit from a temporary... as some can strengthen the tooth that is left to prevent a root canal... and if its just a matter of replacing the one that fell out then just get the regular one but the dentist is the only one that can make that call...
they may not treat you with antibiotics unless the infection is severe enough as your body is capable of fighting it off(if its infected)... but again thats the dentists call... there are just so many factors that play into it that only the dentist would know the answer for as they are the only ones actually looking at the tooth and amount of damage... the sooner its taken care of the better! and trust me you need to get caught up on the rest of your teeth as well! the longer you put it off the more expensive it gets!
Do you think I should call around to other dentists and ask for a temp filling?? The denist was very rushed, when I asked about temp filling or what I should do he said "hold on let me see" and walked out I was told by thr assistant to go out! Ughhh. I feel like its going to break I'm just paranoid about it but its one of the front teeth I think any food will cause further damage...idk :( they said no root canal til after the baby in june becuz of pain killers ect. Id feel a lot better with a temp filling with the antibiotics
Oh! Btw I feel I must add that small abscesses can resolve themselves without treatment. That info is basically referring to an infection that is not resolving within about two weeks. Or is showing growth instead of healing! Sorry :-)
Good oral hygiene is important not only in pregnancy, but throughout life.
A simple abscess or infection can lead to a life-threatening situation without treatment.
Almost all infections of the oral cavity (barring tonsils usually) if left untreated can, and will travel to the chest (mainly the heart) because of the veins and arteries that run through that area. sepsis (when infection enters the bloodstream) is easily attained with unchecked oral infections also. At that point I.V. Antibiotics are usually the only way to treat it.
People suffering from sepsis is NOT pretty. I've seen it a lot. :-(
Anyways :-) theres info on oral infection and what happens of not treated (pregnant or not).
Yep just what AnnieBrooke said.... good oral hygeine is a must during pregnancy! i needed a root canal and my dentist put in a temporary filling to hold me over as she didnt feel comfortable doing a bunch of x rays till after... but my Dr(who is a high risk Dr) said it would have been fine and that my dentist was just being paranoid...
My filling had fallen out... unfortunatly there's an infection in the tooth I need a root canal ughhhh! They can't do the work until after the baby is born in two months....he gave me a prescrip for amoxicillan.. now I just have to fit a 900$ payment into my budget. :(
Not only safe, but imperative if you do have tooth decay. The bacteria entering your bloodstream from your mouth (if you have any tooth decay) is a very serious problem in pregnancy. For your general health and especially the baby's, get your teeth in tip-top repair. Don't wait any longer.
If the filling just came out, and there is no further decay, then they can just put the filling back in....if there is more decay or new decay then they can either put a bigger filling in the tooth, or u may need a root canal if its close to the nerve of the tooth. Dental treatment and X-rays are safe during pregnancy.
They'll probably just do a cleaning and unless the problem is obvious, nothing else until after baby. They wouldn't even clean my teeth without a slip from my dr. This pregnancy I have a prewritten script for dental work and even though it says they can fix any cavities if I have any and use the numbing med, I still can't have an x-ray, so even if I did have a cavity, they couldn't do anything without the x-ray to confirm, so I still wouldn't need the med til after the pregnancy. Some drs might feel it's okay for the x-ray bc of the lead jacket and how far along you are, but chances are your doctor won't find it necessary to allow it bc you're far enough along to wait it out unless its REALLY bothering you
