4 wks pregnant and doctor said my thyroid level abnormal...help!!!

Okay, I went in for a pap and thought I was pregnant so I took a blood test on Thursday. Test came back negative for pregnancy but doctor said I had abnormal thyroid levels and said it might be too early to tell about the pregnancy. Sunday and Monday got positive hpts at home. Now I'm going in for another blood test and further tests for my thyroid. I'm scared to death that my baby is not getting enough/getting too much thyroid for normal development. Should I be worried!???? If I have a problem will it hurt my baby at this point? Also, could the levels just be off because I'm pregnant? Help! I called to see if I should be worried and the doctor said we can talk about everything when I go in. I don't get to see doctor until next week! :o(

I agree that I should relax. And, yes it's easier said than done.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Find out they are pregnant and THEN find out about abnormal thyroid levels?

hey thyroid is required for the normal development of baby. I hv unnderworking thyroid and am taking synthroid tablets.
My thyroid doctor knows I am trying for pregnancy. So he told me to contact him as soon as I get pregnant so he can up my
dosage. So I think that means u need more thyroid in pregnancy than u normally need. He actually mentioned I may need to
double my dosage while preggo.
But relax dont worry too much. I knw some women hv taken thyroid lil later. And may b since this is new for u they can not
just give medicine on phone. He may need to do sm bloodworks and decide on the dosage. all the best ...

Relax, just by knowing about the thyroid should make a huge difference.  It's VERY common for women to develop issues with there thyroid while pregnant, and although it's possible it could cause complications (Small  chance I think), as long as you keep an eye on everything you should be fine.

A friend of mine has a thyroid problem, they just need to monitor you more during the pregnancy, and I think she said it was more to make sure your thyroid was ok then the baby.

And I agree with smjmekg, if your dr is waiting a week then he's not that worried, so you should be fine!  Just relax.

You should calm down and try to relax, I know that's easier said than done, but if you're pregnant stress isn't good for you or baby. If your doctor was really worried about your thyroid I don't think he/she would make you wait a week for something. It is only one week away, I'm not a doctor but I don't think it would do that much damage in one week, and like I said if your doctor was that worried he/she would have told you something more than discussing it at your appointment.
