6W1D fetal pole seen but no heart beat
Hi ,
My wife is now 6 weeks 1 day in her pregnanacy .
We went for an early scan as our previous pregnancy is lost.
The report of scan is :
1) Gastenational Sac size of 1.8 cm which corresponds to 6 weeks 1 day
2) Yolk Sac not seen
3) Fetal Pole seen
4) No cardiac activity
5) CRL of 0.43 cm which is 6 weeks 1 day
We are so worried and the doctor asked us to come on in a weeks time for another scan
It is really difficult for us and we are praying god to have good baby this time
My doubt is :
1) When will yolk sac not seen and Fetal pole seen . Generally yolk sac is seen first and then the fetal pole . But our case is reverse which is worrying.
2) When is fetal cardiac activity seen .
Only positive at this time is fetal pole is seen at least and no other major problems like bleeding , pain for her.
Can any one give us some clue on our case and anyone faced such situation like us before.

So doctor has given the tablets for abortion.
My wife started using them and all over now.
Its second time for us .
We will try third time and rest all is in gods hand when to give us a Kid.

hi, thats really good news! progesterone supplements are safe and helpful for the pregnancy.
ecosprin must be a low dose asprin, it keeps the blood thin and avoids miscarriages which happen due to blood clotting and insufficient blood supply to fetus.
Please take the medication and on your next visit, your doctor should be able to tell you the fetal heart rate as well. All the best!

She said she is able to see a little heartbeat . She said still there is a chance and hope and she has given one
1) ONE HCG Injection to my wife
2) Progrosterone Tablets
3) Ecosprin tablets
Is these tablets good in Initial weeks.
We are totally confused now . This doctor has not given any scan reports but she told orally that there is a little fetal movement and said it could be little heartbeat.

If it is chromosomal abnormalities it could be a random fluke (random genetic mutation) or it could be that one or both of you have a genetic mutation that is being passed along. I would suggest folic acid (vitamin) possibly the highest amount possible based on scientific studies of what's safe. Or there is a possibility that you could try IVF where they can use the "healthy" eggs and sperm or if one of you have a genetic issue and the other is fine you can try donor sperm and do IUI (insemination) or IVF (invetro fertilization).
I'm so sorry that you have had to go through such heartache. I know my husband and I were devastated after experiencing a miscarriage at 6wks pregnant. It then took us 34 months to get pregnant again and we truly see the blessing in pregnancy and appreciate it in a way that we never could before. I am now 29 weeks pregnant.
I wish you and your wife the best of luck. I hope that you are able to have your baby soon. Also keep in mind that adoption is a BEAUTIFUL thing. There are so many children and babies out there who would give anything for a loving home and someone to call mommy and daddy.

Hi Kishore, Sorry to hear you both are going through this. Yes it is better to wait another week, sometimes the heartbeat is not picked up until the 8th week. Miscarriage in 1st trimester do happen.. I too had the same thing happen to me in my last pregnancy. I was also told there may have been chromosomal abnormality due to which baby did not develop.
I now got pregnant again and I have entered the second trimester and baby is doing fine thankfully...
What I did do differently was to exercise regularly, eat healthy, I took vitamin B-complex with Vitamin c regularly.
I also took homeopathic agnus castus (vitex) supplement to have a healthy ovulation.. sometime the egg quality is not good enough to develop a healthy embryo.. Vitex is to be taken upto 14th day of menstrual cycle and discontinued until next cycle starts.
Along with that, my husband also took Himalaya supplements for men, called Tentex-Forte and Speman. We had to take these supplements for about 2 months and got pregnant.
Do have faith in God, you would find a lot women on this forum who suffered multiple losses and then went on to have a healthy pregnancy finally. God bless you both!

Can anyone here know can we prevent these type of issues in a baby .
Me and my wife both did Karyotyping as well . Which is normal .
But doctors are saying there can be chromosomal abnormalitles while forming the baby .
How we can prevent them ?

This is actually second time in a year we are facing such issues.

The fact that they did not see any growth between your last ultrasound and this one is not a good sign...
Have they tested her HCG levels? If so, are they doubling every 48--72 hours..
If they are doubling, then I would say that there is still some hope that there will be some growth.

oops, there is a slight error in my post above.. When i went for scan at 5wk2d, there was only gestational sac, and yolk sac and NO fetal pole and NO heartbeat, and the measurements said 4wk3d.
By 7wk0d scan, fetal pole of .5cm and heartbeat was heard, and I measured 6wk2d, so the baby's growth picked up when I rested.

hi, it is very common to see only the fetal pole and no heartbeat this early. I went in a 5wk2d and saw the fetal pole but no heartbeat. I went back at 7wks and heard the heartbeat.
I was told by the doctor that until 12 weeks, the yolk sac is responsible for producing progesterone to sustain the pregnancy. After 12 weeks, progesterone is produced by placenta and the yolk sac dissappears.
It is possible that they missed the yolk sac. Since you saw the fetal pole, it would be best to have a scan after 1 week to look for heartbeat, but it should be a transvaginal(internal scan).
One thing which I would suggest is.. do call your doctor and ask him about the possibility of having a low progesterone since the yolk sac was not seen.
In my case, the doctor put me on 400 mg of progesterone supplements for vaginal use.
It was discontinued after 12 weeks were over.
A lot depends on how much rest is taken by the mother and how relaxed she is. Do make her comfortable and ask her to rest and sleep as much as she can.
In my 5wk2d scan I was told the sac measured only 4wk3d ( 6 days behind). My doctor put me on complete rest saying the more rested I am, the chances are that the baby's growth is better. In my 12 wk scan, I measured 11wk6d, only 1 day behind, which was such a relief.

I searched several sites trying to find something that about no yolk sac with a fetal pole and couldnt find any.. I am hoping they maybe just missed the yolk sac or had a hard time identifying it. It is a weird situation. I would have hope you would have gotten more responses by now but it does seem to be a more unique situation. More people mgiht response come morning. I hope everything works out for you and your wife.

As I said on the other thread, it is not uncommn for the heartbeat to not be found at this stage but I wasnt sure what it meant about the no yolk sac.

Failure to identify (with transvaginal ultrasound) a yolk sac when the gestational sac has grown to 12 mm is also usually indicative of a failed pregnancy.
12MM = 1.2Cm

No HCG Test is done yet we have to go and make it .
Doctor asked us to wait for one more weak to test the Ultrasound scan.

A blighted ovum is when there is a gestational sac with no yolk sac and no fetal pole. Generally oblong shaped. no heart beat. They will not diagnosed a blighted ovum until after 8 weeks.
What did your doctor say at this point about it?
