It depends on the type of blood test and the values the particular lab uses. Some labs use a hcg of 25 or more as pregnant, anything under 25 is not. There are HPT's that are sensitive to 20. It makes a big difference whether or not they are doing a quantative (beta) or qualitative (yes or no). Many doctors office will not immediately run a BETA Hcg and will go with a qualitative first. If the lab values for considering a positive result are on the higher end, it is very possible to get a positive urine home test before a positive blood test.
A blood test is absolutely more sensitive than a urine HPT. But, LosingMyMindInGA is right about the breastfeeding messing with your period. Call your Dr. and just tell them what's going on. Let them know you're BF and you're 7 days late, and see if they want you to come in for a blood test. Good luck!
A blood test isn't necessarily going to be any more sensitive than a HPT. If your tests are coming out negative and it's already past time for your period, it's unlikely that you are pregnant.
It's more likely that there is somethign else going on. You have been breastfeeding therefore hormone production can easily prevent you from having a period, even if you have had some regular ones. The hormone production during breastfeeding can cause cycle irregularities if you are one of the ones who DOES have their period while Bfing.
Hi,
maybe request a blood test from your doctor?
