A crazy situation

I just came back from my doctors appointment. im 17 weeks and 2 days. He informed me that i have an HPV infection but the crazy thing is that me and my boyfriend thought i would have chlamydia since he have it ( and is currently taking the meds).  The doctor had me do a pep smear when i 1st found out i was pregnant and my results came back to this, thats how came to the assumption of a HPV infection BUT My question is can the doctor could have mistaken the chlamydia for an HPV infection?     further infomation is that i never had any other type of infection or anything before this..

Chlamydia can be harmful to the baby and cause (as mentioned above) eye infections.  Hospitals are required though to put ointment in the babies eyes after delivery for everybody because of this risk.  Either way you need to get tested for chlamydia and get treated.  Make sure you go back for a test of cure and DO NOT have sex with your boyfriend until you both come back clear.  They will generally test you anyway around 36 weeks for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and group B strep to know if you need treatment prior to or at the time of delivery.  But if you have chlamydia now it needs to be treated to prevent complications.  If untreated it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease along with scarring in the fallopian tubes which can cause future pregnancy issue.  So best thing to do is get tested.  Good luck.

i was doing alot of research and i have read that if you do have it then yea you can have a natural delivery it can not harm the baby. but i also read that chlamydia can cause eye infections such as pink eye...
but yea the doctor said i did have some abnormal cells in the process. He also told me that the hpv virus can go away by itself it should take about 8 months (long time but worth it)

I am very sorry the both of you are going through this. I am no doctor but i know a little bit about hpv since i have it as well. I first tested positive for it when i was 15 and pregnant with my first son. Since then ive given natural birth to both of my boys and they are happy, healthy normal boys. My doctor at the time assured me that i could not pass it to my child during birth as long as i did not have any type of break out during labor. I would ask what type you have since there are many types of hpv. In the last 7 years ive had about 5 tissue samples taken, 1 colposcopy, and had cells frozen once. My hpv had caused pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. I also went through the series of hpv shots as well thinking that may help but it did not. The shots only prevent you from contracting the virus not curing it. Like said before it does usually go away on its own but once you have had it, then you have it for life. I hope this helps you all out and please feel free to contact me with any questions.

No HPV is done by a different test.  Did you doctor test you for chlamydia or is he treating you? As said above HPV develops over a few years so you were infected with that a few years ago.  As far as your boyfriend, and please correct me if I am wrong, but he was probably tested for chlamydia which is a whole different test.  For that they take a culture and place it in an incubator to see what grows.  Chlamydia is a bacteria and HPV is a virus so I really don't think it was a mistake.  If your doctor did not test or treat you I would ask them to.  As for the HPV they will probably repeat another pap after delivery or decide to do a colposcopy which is where they take a little piece of your cervix and send it to the lab for testing.  For some women HPV usually resolves itself and for others you need to have other procedures done to help get rid of it.  Hope this helped at least a little bit.

wow i dont know the answer to your question but i was also told i have hpv and the doctor did tell me not to worry that it could just be a false positive or i could have somethig else and it just showed up as hpv which just means you had a adnormal pap...i have been with my husband for a year now and he does not have any kind of std so i dont know where this came from they say you can have it for years before finding out..but the number one thing that makes a pap show hpv is genital herpes which i know for a fact i dont have...uumm with chlamydia all you have to do is get a shot or take two pills so your boyfriend should be clean by now and if you slept with him you more then likely do have it and if you get treated he needs to get treated again cause you would have gave it back to him..hope that makessince to you but yes my doctor did say if you have a abnormal pap and it dont detect what you have they call i hpv positive you should have to go back...

It can take HPV years to start showing abnormal on a pap. The tests for HPV and chlamydia are different so I don't think they would have gotten them wrong. Is he sure that you have HPV or did you just have an abnormal pap?
