Yes I agree........The amount absorbed into the skin is even smaller.
I think what the big thing is with all of those common acne meds is that they are safe to use because most of them only have a low percentage of the actual medication in them. If it were a higher dose or higher percentage....then it would not be as safe. That's what I got from looking it up. I've had bad break-outs this whole pregnancy so far! It comes and goes!! Drives me crazy.
Let me know if the stuff you are getting works...im right there with you. I have NEVER broke out this bad before. This is my fourth pregnancy and I know my others I did break out but nothing like this and its driving me CRAZY!!!!!
I used Proactiv with my last pregnancy and continue to use it during this. I have never had any problems. I did read every word of info provided with it to make sure that it didn't say that it was unsafe. I have never heard of acne washes to be a problem.
I should also add this research concludes to be accurate when the product is used correctly according to directions. Excessive washing or leaving product on for extensive periods of time may increase any possible risks. It is always a good thing to discuss with your doctor. They will inform you of what they believe to be in you and your baby's best interest. I used the products during 3 pregnancies at the direction of my OB with no negative side effets to me or my babies.
Category C simply means there are no ANIMAL studies proving the medication to be harmful to an animals fetus and should only be used if needed. Animals and humans are different. However, research that has been done with human babies have not shown any undesirable effects. There is no evidence that it causes harm to an unborn baby. There is however with products that contain salicylic acids. Prescription medications that DO cause birth defects and other problems with an unborn child are:
Accutane (category X)
Tetracycline (category D)
This information came from a medical journal.
My dermatologist said it's not safe. Hmmm I guess it might be his recomendation against it being a cat C. I guess I will talk to my OB about it also.
The pharmacy was out of the acne cream so I wasn't able to pick I up but the pharmacist didn't say it wasn't safe he was concerned about the headache medicine my OB prescribed being a cat C.
My dr told me today that it is ok to use over the counter products with that ingredient. She told me you want to stay away from prescription ones bc they contain the ingredients that have harmful effects.
i commented on your other post but yeah there's different opinions on it. like i said before it's category c..so its a personal preference.
This is just one example from labor of love but there is a ton of other research proving it to be completely safe.
Here is some research not sure who told you it is not safe but it is and other women should not be scared to use it due to inaccurate information.......
Over-the-counter acne treatments are generally considered to be safe to use during pregnancy. Most of these treatments contain benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide has been proven in clinical studies to be safe to use during pregnancy. There are a few anti-acne medications, such as Tetracycline, Salicylic Acid, Tretinon, and Isotrentinoin that either are known to be harmful during pregnancy or have not been fully tested as to their effects on pregnant women. Of course, you should always check with your health care provider before using any medications while pregnant, whether they are over-the-counter or prescription. There may be circumstances that are unique to you or to your pregnancy that may affect whether or not you should use them.
I have always use over the counter acne product during pregnancy and yes they are completely safe. There are certain prescription meds that are not safe to use but benzol peroxide is safe. It has been recommended to pregnant women by OBGYN's for years.
