Aged Placenta?

I went with my sil to her drs appointment last week and her bp was still high ( she has toxemia) and the doc did a nst and he didnt like the results so he did a sonogram.. she is almost 37 weeks.. he said the placenta is already showing signs of maturity and being aged with spots... what exactly does that mean? and now he has her coming in to his office twice a week....

thanks!!!  they also sent her for a complete blood workup and they drew blood to test for renal functions... so Im assuming they think she is having problems with her urine... but thanks for all the info

From what I read on Google, they sometimes do non-stress tests and u/s to monitor the situation.  That is probably why the doc is having her come to his office 2x per week now instead of the standard 1x.

I googled this and from what I was seeing, it basically means that the placenta is aged beyond how pregnant your SIL is.  Did that make any sense?  It's like your SIL's placenta is further along than she is with her pregnancy.  It has matured faster than it should have.  If this happens, the placenta can stop functioning the way it should.  And the function of the placenta is to deliver the needed nutrients to the baby.  Everything should be fine.  She just may have to have the baby a little early.  Since she is already 37 weeks, there shouldn't be any problems with that I wouldn't think.
