Allergies

Ladies please help!!! I've always had super bad allergies and the only thing I've found that works is DayQuil/NyQuil and obviously can't take that being 10 weeks pregnant. I seriously miss being able to breathe! Anyone know of a SAFE and effective allergy/sinus OTC medicine I can take???

I work for an allergist and I'm 11 weeks so he has been telling me till I get to 14 weeks to use a neti.pot benedryl and the nasal strips work amazing and so far that has worked for me. Mind you I'm allergic to life...... Anything green yellow ect so I know how your feeling but hang in there only 4 more weeks still is somewhat safe.to use other antihistimines.... Good luck

I would speak with your doctor/midwife but I take an older generic of Chlortrimeton and was told it is considered one of the safer alternatives during pregnancy. Benadryl (and I think Claritin?) is also supposed to be fine but I find it is not as effective for me. I wonder which ingredient in DayQuil helps for allergies - perhaps the decongestant? Since it is a cold symptom reliever, not an antihistamine, if it is the decongestant helping, you might want to call your doctor's office and ask about decongestants/expectorants that are safe. Also, the best suggestion I received during my last pregnancy when it came to congestion was to get a humidifier. Ours was only a $20-30 one from Walgreens but was a life-saver!
