Almost 11 weeks -- Blighted Ovum

I would have been 11 weeks on Thursday. Everything seemed to be going so well. I was nauseous, had tender breasts, my tummy was even starting to grow. I had some severe cramping but no bleeding on Saturday. So, I made my husband take me to the ER. The ultrasound tech was so nice. She was talking through the whole thing until she got a peak at the baby. She said she couldn't see much and that the doctor would go over the results. I haven't miscarried yet, but I know that I am supposed to. This will be my second miscarriage. I am just waiting for my OB office to call me now. I called first thing this morning and still haven't heard anything. Right now it just feels like this isn't real. I don't think I can move on until I miscarry or a D&C is performed. The wait is interminable. Shouldn't I have heard back from the doctor by now? I am still cramping pretty bad but nothing is happening. I keep taking tylenol for the pain. I know that there a few of you on here who have gone through the same thing. With my last miscarriage, I didn't need a D&C it just happened. So, I guess I am wondering what should I expect? What is the recovery period like? What are some things that helped you get through this tough time?

Update - Doctor wants to see me next Monday for another ultrasound. I am trying not to get my hopes up about the whole thing. My pg symptoms just come and go, but they have been doing that the whole pregnancy. It is kind of cruel that I still feel pregnant. The pills sound like the best option. I am not looking forward to a D&C unless absolutely necessary. After my last m/c, it took another year before I conceived again. So, I am eager to get back to normal so that we can start trying again. I think I have come to a sort of acceptance, but not sure that reality has set in yet since the baby is still in me. Will leave another update sometime next week when I am feeling up to it.

I had a D&C in November, and I had no pain and very little bleeding afterward.  They gave me pain pills, but I didn't need them.  The procedure was quick.  I would make sure to follow up with HCG blood tests to make sure you get back to zero.  I am having issues getting back to zero.  Good luck.  I am sorry you have to go through this.

In 06 I had a mc the doctor i was seeing said it was reallyimportant to have a d&c.  Turns out I really didn't need the surgery since I was already miscarrying on my own.  Then a few months later I had a blighted ovum.  I requested Cervadil which are tablets you put on your cervix before bed and the next morning you should have bleeding.  The cramping was really bad but I'm glad I did that instead of another surgery.
They will usually give you Vicodin for the pain.

Thanks, that helps. At least I know what to expect. Still waiting to hear from the doctor though. I called again though, maybe it won't be too much longer. The cramping is fairly bad and the tylenol helps but still no bleeding. I wish that the miscarriage would start or the doctor would get back to me. I just can't believe that it is happening again.

i am sorry to hear about your news... i went through a d and c on sept. 28, 2007 at 15 weeks pregnant.  if this is what your doc recommends, from my own experience, this procedure was not physically that bad.  i had virtually no bleeding afterwards, but i think that most people have some, and mild cramps.  the cramps were similar to a light period.  the docs like for you to rest for a few days after the procedure.  they gave me pain pills to help with the cramps.  i slept a lot for about 5 days or so afterwards.  after a week or two, your doc will ask that you visit him/her again to check your hcg levels... to make sure that they are at 0 or atleast going down.  as you know, take the time to grieve.  again, very sorry to hear about your news.
