Anyone else have Medicaid?

I have been accepted on to my husbands already existing Medicaid but i have not received my card yet and I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant. I really want to at least make my first pre natal appointment, But I'm not sure when exactly I will have my card and I'm afraid that I'll make the appointment but not have my card yet by the time the appointment comes. I'm in Illinois, and not sure if it differs state to state. Does anyone else that has medicaid or know about it know if I can go to the appointment without the insurance medicaid card and they will just bill it to medicaid and I will be able to bring in the card when I get it?

im from Michigan and I have medicaid, I got it as soon as i found out i was pregnant. I never recieved my exact medicaid card to this day, and my son is 3 weeks old lol.. but I did get my maclaren card cause thats the kind of medicaid i chose.  but yes all you gotta do is tell the doctors office when they ask what insurance you have, is that youve been accepted for medicaid and its pending, they might ask to see your acceptance thing when you go in, but yea here in michigan they wont see you until 10 weeks either, so I didnt get proper care until 11 weeks.  But go ahead find an ob that will accept you now, cause it can still take 2-4 weeks before you can even get in

Haha. I know that the doctors in my area don't typically see you till 10+ weeks. I was 16 weeks before I was properly seen. You might be able to call and get a number for your insurance. I did that and just gave it to them if it was needed. But my clinic hasn't even asked about insurance so who knows.

Thanks, I'll have to call around and see what obgyn's are taking medicaid patients and if they would do that, I live in a college town (northern illinois Univ is like 4 miles away) and i know that alot of doctors do take medicaid its just if they are accepting patients or not and if they will let me do it without having my card or even case number yet.  I'm not sure when i should have my first prenatal appt by but this is my first pregnancy and i'd like to get one asap. I have an ultrasound thursday at the free clinic i found out i was pregnant from but thats it, just to make sure everything looks ok. I'm so nervous!

I'm on it, and what you can try to do is call them and see if they would take you. Just explain you're waiting on your card to come. It takes about a month to get a card. (Or at least mine did) I know that when I was in the middle of getting insurance I was stuck in the hospital twice and was getting prenatal care and was told that medicaid can just go back three months and take care of any of the bills that I got. Yours could be something similar.
