Anyone on Synthroid and TTC?? Please talk to me! Depressed!!!

I've been posting like a mad hen in here.  Sorry! I've been TTC for six months since I had my Paraguard IUD removed in October.  I've been on Synthroid after a thyroidectomy in 2005.  Needless to say, up until this past month, I haven't taken my meds regularly.  I'm reading that this may impact my ovulation cycle.  Right now I am on CD 27 and 12 DPO.  Took another test this morning.... BFN. I'm just wondering if I screwed myself up by not taking my meds on a regular basis???  Anyone else having problems TTC with thyroid issues?  I'm almost certain AF will show up, as I have PMDD and the evil side of me has returned. I usually have a 27 day cycle on avg.  And to make it more challenging, my fella will be 50 this year. Slow swimmers maybe??? I'm so depressed and ready to give up.  I have two beautiful sons.... both surprises.... Maybe I am just not meant to have another one??

Trust me, it was a shocker for me too. lol. He is four now.  I had an IUD (paraguard no hormones) put in after him because I wasn't ready for any more surprises. Now, I can't seem to get pregnant to save my life!! The only thing I can figure is the thyroid stuff. It's depressing, but I am hoping...

Well it sounds like you are doing everything you can right now and are being proactive with the meds etc.

Wow!  You got pregnant w/ number 2 while nursing and on BC?  Gosh, you must be VERY fertile.  I agree with you - not taking your meds on a regular basis most certainly is interfering w/ conceiving since your levels will be out-of-whack.

Synthroid is compatible with pregnancy and since it is the only thyroid hormone I have, very necessary to conceive. At this point I am certain that not taking my meds regularly for so many months is why I am having trouble ttc. Both of my sons were bc babies. My periods hadn't even returned and I was nursing and on bc when #2 surprised me.  I am on my second month of taking my meds regularly. I have to go in to have thyroid levels checked this week to see if my meds are right. Doc may increase the dosage. Another day with no AF, though she isn't truly late until tomorrow.  Took another hpt this morning. BFN. Wondering if I should take a month of BC. Seems I have to be on it to get preggers. lol

I also understand that not taking various thyroid medications on a regular basis can interfere with your cycle since the thyroid controls so MANY hormonal processes with are are inter-related.

I dont know much about thyroid medications - does your doctor know you are TTC?  Its important to make sure the synthriod would be compatible w/ pregnancy.

An average couple only has a 25% chance of conceiving during a given cycle and its recommended that a couple seek medical advice if they have not conceived after 1 year.   Since you have only been trying for 6 months you are still within the "normal" window.

Sperm are pretty robust and men can conceive children well into their 80's so age does not necessarily play a role in ability to conceive (in men, its important in women though).  You might want to both get checked out though just to make sure everything is ok and discuss your medications and the effect they might have on TTC w/ your doctor.
