BCP/pregnancy

Not sure if I should post here or not, but...

I have taken BCP for 11 years now and have decided to stop this month to try and get pregnant. I got my period April 16th and started taking the pill April 21st. In the meantime I decided to stop and haven't taken them since April 24th. I had unprotected sex during this period. What I want to know is if there is a chance of getting pregnant and if so will I have bleeding on the "so-called placebo days" even if I am pregnant. How long should I wait to actually have a home pregnancy test? or a blood test to that matter?

Thank you in advance

They normally had sex every other day so there is really no telling.  I am sure it was right around the time she was most fertile...which was while she was taking birth control.

Hope that helps.

What time did you (or your sister) have intercourse while on the pill? before, after or the day you forgot/had antibiotics?

I was on BCP for 7 years.  I have been trying for almost a year.  I remember when I stopped taking my BCP I did in the middle of my cycle.  I had spotting the first two days and a light bleeding for a day.  It is common for you to spot or have a light few days when you come off BCP.  It does not mean that you ovulated.   My SIL got preggers off the pill 2 times...one b/c of antibiotics and the other was just because it happened.  I would say that if you missed a couple of pills (I know for me at least) you may have bleeding.  I don't remember mine being that horrible or anything just a very light couple of days.

Hope this helps!!!

Most likely, you do not ovulate immediately after stopping the pill.  But, we are all different, so I cannot say whether you did or not.

But what I really want to know is in this case of forgotten pills do you ovulate imediately after forgetting, or does it take a few days?

But did you forget the day or so of pill but continue the rest of the days? I didn't continue because I was going to stop anyway and after three days of forgetting, I thought it wasn't wort continueing

If you don't take your pill for 3 straight days, yes, of course there is a chance of pregnancy. It all depends on your cycle and when you ovulate.

i was actually wondering essentially the same thing and didnt get any responses to my post.difference is with me i did not get the bleeding as u should after stopping the pills..ususally if i miss 2 days i start my period i have bow stopped and been off my pills for almost two weeks and still have had nothing.i have taken a test though which said negative and am unsure how long i should be waiting to actually have another period.

does that mean that when forgetting the pill (like I did for 3 days straight) I could have ovulated imeddiatly during that time? I could not find anything on the internet with a miss-the-pill-for-a-day menstrual cycle.

Would this mid cycle bleeding ocurr if I did get pregnant? Even if it would only be about a two or three day long pregnancy?

I am so confused

Yes, I know for me, I would quit my pills mid cycle (usually due to laziness! Ha) and about 2 days after stopping the pill, my period would come.  I was so busy the days leading up to my wedding, that I forgot to take my pill, and ended up with my period on my wedding day.  Oops!

the bleeding is most likely cause from stopping the pills midcycle, and it all depends on when you ovulate as to when you could get pregnant. it will probably take a few cycles to straighten out your period and ovulation then you would be able to determine when you might be able to get pregnant. soooo good luck!

The pill is only about 99% effective, so it is possible to get pregnant while taking it.  Not only that, but user error while taking the pill can lead to pregnancy.  The pill is out of our system almost immediately, which is why when on it, it must be taken daily to be truly effective.

Ok! Thanks

But tell me something, how does it work when someone says they got pregnant while missing one day of the pill?

The pill only takes approximately 48 hours to get out of your system, regardless of how long you were on the pill.  It is highly unlikely that you would have ovulated immediately after stopping the pill though.  The fact that you are having your placebo bleed means you are most likely not pregnant.

But my question is: I didn't finish the month, I stopped in the middle. Now I started bleeding (the normal 4 days after I stopped taking the pill). If I bleed does this mean I am not at risk of having gotten pregnant?
Can you understand what I mean?

you should still get your period at the normal time even coming off of birth control.  i was on it for 7 years and stopped and still got my period at the normal times.  I would say take a pregnancy test if your period in more than 5 days late.

I'm not really sure what your chances of getting pregnant at this time are.  You have been on the pill for a long time and I have heard that it can take anywhere from 6 months to a year to get it completely out of your system and to get pregnant.  But, I have also heard of women getting pregnant right away.  But since you have been on it so long, it may take you a little longer to get your cycles regulated and to pin point exactly when you ovulate.  Your cycles may be a little bit off for a while.

Good luck!!
